It’s not been that long since it was in at the Savoy is it? And a national tour of that same production. And it was done by The Crucible Christmas’19. Do people really need to see another revival of this so soon?

Yes, the Savoy was Christmas 2015 and transferred to the Phoenix through to August 2016 with a tour of the same production running at the same time in 2016 |

I’d heard of a rumoured production at the Bridge theatre but wouldn’t be this summer with the current schedule.

Guys and Dolls has been on my shows-to-see list for a while now, I somehow always keep missing it, so would be happy if it was revived again.

Nick Hytner directing a new production, opens later in the year.
Bizarre choice as it’s been done so recently, but I’ll assume he can attract some decent casting for this.

I know this has been in the pipeline for quite a while... Curious whether they may opt to do it promenade style like their Julius Caesar/Midsummer and covid factors meant it had to be delayed.

It's a cracking show, and the Bridge seem to do well with getting a good cast - and I'm actually really up for Nick directing.
Too soon to start dream casting? It's about time Jo Riding played Adelaide!

I really like this show but not sure I'm ready to fork out money for it at the moment as it wasn't that long ago I last saw it in the West End. Lots of other shows I want to see first.

A quick search indicates that she is mid 30s which is certainly possible for Adelaide.
Particularly as the average at which people got married was lower when the show is set

Vivian Blaine was around 30 in the original production and I think Carly is around 35-ish? |

Vivian Blaine was 29 when she originated the role, Faith Prince was 35 when she won a Tony for it, and Imelda Staunton was in her late 20s when she replaced Julia Mckenzie in the NT production. Jane Krakowski and Rebel Wilson were in their mid 30s too. Carly Mercedes Dyer is definitely not too young

I've had a browse of Nicholas Hytner's credits - am I wrong to say this will be his first musical since Carousel? Will definitely be going regardless of who's doing this

Will definitely be going regardless of who's doing this Probably is true, he also done the original Miss Saigon, which he named his house after as it basically payed the mortgage. As you say he also did Carousel which Frank Rich of the New York Times dubbed ‘the best ever revival of a Rogers and Hammerstein musical’ so basically after those 2 success Nicholas gave up on musicals, figuring he couldn’t go any better. Guys and Dolls is one of the best ever musicals, with the greatest eleven o’clock number written for theatre ‘Sit down you’re rockin the bird.’ And no I didn’t see the much heralded National production, nor did I see the Donmar production with the late Patrick Swayze, only if I could turn back time twice! |

Sweet Smell of Success opened in 2002 which he directed . I think that was his last musical |

I like Guys and Dolls but it must be the most revived American musical, I'd have gone for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and that's not been in London for decades.
