I sent an email to Bridge theatre a few days ago asking when they were going to announce cast for this production. No reply so far. Reply from Bridge theatre today Unfortunately we don't have a set date for the cast announcement. Very best, Anya • Bridge Theatre 3 Potters Fields Park London SE1 2SG • +44(0)333 320 0052 bridgetheatre.co.uk Isn't it a bit weird they don't have the full cast by now?

For the whole run? Bridgerton season 3 is filming this summer so it is likely season 4 will be filming next summer, and presumably he is sticking around for that. It is a 6-8 month shoot so unless Netflix are going to be very accommodating about his schedule (and they haven't been for other cast members in the past) that doesn't seem to fit too well. Maybe give his agent a call and see if they’ve worked this all out? "Expelliarmus!!!"

Without meaning to be rude, do you not think they have an announcement date and just...aren't telling any random person who emails in?

Without meaning to be rude, do you not think they have an announcement date and just...aren't telling any random person who emails in? I’m going to challenge you on this. I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request. Given the price of tickets, the amount of planning that goes into an average person’s theatre trip (we don’t all live within the M25) and the very short notice, I think buying tickets “sight unseen” is a huge risk. I certainly never book for anything without knowing the cast in advance. That way if performers I can’t stand are cast in lead roles, I don’t go. Similarly, I am more likely to book if the cast is announced and I like the cast. I think something has gone wrong and they are having to recast, hence the radio silence, but they should announce what they have. Anything else can be “TBC”

A fair challenge, but we've been around for long enough to know that they aren't just going to go 'oh yeah X Y and Z are in this' or 'we're telling you on Friday'.
The Bridge have a pattern of cast announcement which is easily followable on their socials (you can see when they announce full cast etc) and the exclusive will come from Baz as he announced the production.
I had actually heard that Jonny never actually accepted the role (they want them to commit to 6 months) but that was a while ago. They have recast Sky, I don't know who it is, but it's been recast. They're just following a pattern of cast announcements for the venue - it doesn't open for 5 months, you wouldn't expect a casting announcement for a while yet. Dear Evan Hansen didn't announce the cast until 6 weeks before opening so it's not out of the ordinary.

Very underwhelming. Clearly Jonathan Bailey had a better offer and dropped out.

Cedric Neal will be brilliant! I'm in two minds about seeing this as saw the West End revival (Phoenix with Rebel Wilson and then the Savoy) twice felt enough for me.

I thought it was quite a good cast but I might give it a miss as I've seen it a few times including Sarah Lancashire, Patrick Swaysee, Ewen McGregor and Rebel Wilson. Mind you I'll probably give in and go.

The only one of those I’ve heard of is Daniel Mays but he was excellent in The Caretaker at the Old Vic, not sure what his singing is going to be like though but I’m looking toward to seeing this when it opens all the same.
I wasn’t expecting any casting on the level of Ewan McGregor (I don’t think he’s done any theatre work in the last 20 years) but I’m happy enough with this cast: I thought Jonathan Bailey was a waste of time when I saw him in Cock so I’m not bothered about him not being in this.

Celinde will be a great Sarah Brown, and Marisha will be fun as Adelaide, but I wish they'd cast it older like they did with Sophie Thompson and Sam Spiro who were both terrific.
I get why people love Cedric Neal, and he'll undoubtedly sing the heck out of Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat, but he does nothing for me as a performer and I always find that whatever role he's in he draws focus (and not in a good way) so I hope that doesn't happen here...

I have only seen Cedric N on TV broadcasts and thought he really couldn't sing.

How does Cedric Neal keep getting cast? He's no actor for a start...

It's one of the best musicals ever written (for my money anyway) - the material is so strong that it lands kinda regardless how you do it (and to an extent who's delivering it). There's real heart in a lot of it though (particularly Sky and Sarah's stuff so I hope they bring that to the front)
Hytner evidently has a vision which, if it's anything like his Shakespeare's at the Bridge, will be exciting whatever happens, and we at least know we've got people who can sing the material.

I dithered a bit and finally booked two cheap seats at the back in May (£19.50 - not many of them left.) Interested to see what the immersive aspect will be. Does the Bridge still do those interval madeleines? Maybe they will switch it to something more New York? Fresh donuts?
I really enjoyed the West End production with Richard Kind (the funniest Nathan Detroit) and Samantha Spiro.

What songs are typically in and out? Having played various wind band/orchestral arrangements, and having only seen the film and am-dram versions, I have no idea which songs they're likely to have. A Women in Love? I've Never Been In Love Before?

The only song i think they often drop is 'More I Cannot Wish You' (which i actually listened to today, but from the musical episode in The Flash.)

I’ve just booked for this for one of the Saturday matinees in May - seated, as I’m not great with mingling in crowds, which is a shame as I’d have been interested in the immersive element. Still look to be a lot of tickets left for most performances at all price levels, so perhaps others are finding the casting a bit underwhelming as well.
I haven’t actually seen the show on stage before (seen the film, of course), although many years ago was in the chorus of an am-dram performance so know it reasonably well!

The only song i think they often drop is 'More I Cannot Wish You' (which i actually listened to today, but from the musical episode in The Flash.) I hope they don't cut it, it's a lovely song. It has never been cut from any of the Broadway productions. In the original (1950-1953) production, it was sung by Pat Rooney, Sr., who had been performing on Broadway since 1898.

It's an immersive production, as their previous immersive productions of Julius Caesar and Midsummer Night's Dream. Personally I can't see why anyone would want to sit in one of those, but fortunately these productions cater to all tastes. We've talked about their immersive productions on the last page; I also recommend checking out the trailers they have on Youtube for their other immersive productions to get an idea of how they look/how the rising platforms in the pit work.
I'm pretty sure I've never paid more than £25 for pit tickets so I'm going to wait - they might do them as rush again, too.
Quoting myself to say to say that 8 months later, Todaytix has now indeed put on a sale for £25 immersive standing tickets. I'm glad I waited!
