I think this deserves a thread. On until 15 Jan at the Kiln. Zadie Smith's first play, written for Brent's tenure as Borough of Culture, it's based on Chaucer's Wife of Bath, updated to a Willesden pub lock-in. Mostly written in rhyming couplets and a pleasure to listen to. It's lightweight and great fun, nothing too thought-provoking, just an entertaining evening, with lots of laughter, bawdiness and warmth, and a perfect performance from Clare Perkins as the Wife.

It's selling pretty well so will be interesting to see if it has a further life.

I'd agree with all of this. I've been meaning to add to the quick review thread, just been a busy week. We had the on-stage seating and laughed a lot, no interaction but I was propositioned by the Wife of Willesden in an early piece which was extra amusement. |
