Yes, but it’s an American film, that’s why NT like it - anything to do with America they love even if it’s a massive straight-to-video turkey with terrible reviews which apparently attempted to combine American and Bollywood musical styles. Still, let’s not prejudge.

I think this is a joke that has gone over some heads. The re-tweet he did was from somebody referencing how awful the film is, so I believe he was just taking the piss.

I agree. I'll definitely see 4 (not in the right demographic for a kids' version of Hamlet, but would have taken my children if they were younger).

Our Generation is a co-production with Chichester FT. CFT has just announced it for 2022 together with The Southbury child (a co-production with the Bridge Theatre) and The Taxidermist's Daughter by Kate Mosse (this is a production postponed from 2020 due to Covid lockdown). I am quite enthusiastic about The Southbury child with Alex Jennings but less so about the other two. I read the Kate Moss book, from which the play was adapted, and hated it.

The rest of the Chichester 2022 programme will be announced next year. I can't remember it doing it this way before - announcing some of the programme so early.

Is the NT taking a leaf out of the Tory playbook? Rather than announce these new productions via email to members first, they are tweeting away on social media.

Is it churlish to ask whether primary school children need a version of Hamlet? Aren't there adult shows for adults and children's shows for children? Aren't there enough children's plays out there they could do?

I have an open mind about the rest - all potentially good. Nice to see a minor British classic that hasn't been given a major revival to my knowledge in the past 30 years of my theatre-going life, for example. But the lack of a major name means it all lacks a bit of excitement.

Its 3 performances and looks like a touring show. seems fine to me!

Lack of names is an issue, but I guess they could get some names potentially for the Assassin and Elridge. Nicola Walker is a biggish name

I can't remember the last time I got the announcement from any theatre first - including the ones that I'm a member of. Does bug me a bit but I guess that is the way now.

Yes, I think it is a bit churlish 

Depends how it's done, but this kind of thing certainly made Shakespeare more accessible for my own children. I think there's a value in aiming at pre-teens, before they get to the 'all this old-fashioned stuff is pointless and boring' age.

Yes, they've been doing it for as long as I can remember. Members are often the last to be contacted with the details.

In this social media age, the second they put the details out to anyone, they’ll be online so I’m sure NT just wants to get out in front of it and get those “likes and shares” themselves.

All theatres with memberships do it via media now. Cant think of anyone telling their members first!

Am I alone in being underwhelmed by NT’s ‘22 offering?

I really like Nicola Walker as an actor but I'm not really a play person unless it's a light play or comedy and reading through the description can't see anything to indicate it would be either so will give it a miss. Plus the ticket prices are very high although I know the NT prices in the last couple of years have really gone up.

Our Generation looks interesting and I loved London Road but a line in the description has put me off.
"Unfortunately, due to long running time, it is not possible to offer smart caption glasses for Our Generation."
So this probably means the play is about 8 hours long.

No. Nothing there for me. I approve of them doing The Corn is Green and if it was £20 at the Finborough I’d probably go but good seats at NT are way too expensive to risk it.
