Was tonight his West End debut? Must be gutting for him.
I read on here this is quite a short play, but the runtime’s given as 1hr45.

I think it was his West End debut, yes! He did Last of the Haussmanns the NT so he’s not a total novice on stage.
Hope he’s ok now, and it was just something like getting dehydrated that’s easily fixed.

It happened during an intense scene so those of us unfamiliar with the story all thought the fainting was part of the play. Am glad Taron is ok health wise and am glad he took the rest of the evening off to rest. I was impressed how his understudy Joel was able to perform the last 25 mins of the play! Normally on Broadway, understudies may not be ready yet during previews (let alone first preview) and may need a folder. Joel didn’t have a folder and he didn’t ask the stage manager for lines. Very impressive overall! For a first preview, the chemistry between the characters was excellent (yes between Jonathan Bailey & Jade Anouka and between Bailey & Egerton.) I was convinced Jonathan really was bi. One thing I hope they’ll do in the future is have Taron take his shirt off so we may see that body of perfection (“fatty bits” and all.)  Speaking of Taron, one scene really impressed me. One moment he’d make a sarcastic remark toward Jade and then immediately afterwards he stared to the other side and suddenly his eyes got watery (no tears but we felt the emotion that he was hurting inside…) Anyways, I hope to see it again after previews! |

For those after slightly more reasonably priced tickets, ATG have released a few at £65 for the mid-week matinees (Thurs) in March, on the edges of the stalls. Not bad given a few seats along the same row and you’d be paying £125 or more.

out during the first performance of COCK
last night.
I am completely fine. Slightly sore neck and
a bruised ego but I'm fine.
I've decided to put a positive spin on it and I
would appreciate it if anyone who was in the
theatre last night just said that I gave such
a committed, electrifying performance that
my body couldn't handle it and checked out.
That being said, apparently you're meant to
actually do the full show and not just three
quarters of it. So I'Il be back with a
vengeance tomorrow night.
Thank you to the amazing team at the
theatre and my wonderful cast mates for
being so lovely.
But mainly I wanted to say thanks to Joel
Harper Jackson who stepped in to do the
last bit of the play. Joel is an amazing actor

I don't know the structure of the play, but if you are on stage in a small cast without an interval then there may be pressure not to drink too much in case you need the toilet. It's also easy to forget to eat properly when you are nervous. It's a pressure many actors would love to have, but returning to the stage after you've become famous, knowing some people only bought their (very expensive) tickets because of you, is a different level, so between that, promotion and rehearsals he's probably not relaxed much lately. Well done the understudy. I like to think that with COVID still on the go, understudies are given enough time and support to be a last minute replacement, but it's still a big ask. |

kathryn, I definitely agree with Taron's statement. All the actors, including Taron, looked like they gave it their all that evening. Also kudos to the director and stage manager and theatre workers who all worked overtime that evening.

For a first complete run with all four of the cast, I thought this was in terrific shape.
It's storytelling at its best, with a beautifully blank set that really taps into the theme of the show (I won't talk about the plot as going in not knowing is great I think)
Jonny Bailey really carries the heavy load of this in his central performance (he doesn't leave the stage for the entire thing) and it must be massively draining. He's dry and witty and then rips your heart out on the turn of a coin - hugely impressive performance.
Loved Taron (the way he can just...cry out of nowhere in a split second is so good 😂) and Jade is really great in her role too. Phil Daniels a necessary plotpoint for the climax of the show and he did the little that was required of him well.
It's another hit for Marianne Elliott - I think this will review very well indeed, and it deserves too.
Side note - absolutely no legroom in the circle of the ambassador's - had I not been on the aisle I wouldn't have gotten my legs in.
View from the end of row J was superb though - I paid £20 when tickets went on sale and that should have been £65 easy. Not a bad seat in the house.

Thanks Being Alive for your review from last night. Great to hear Taron made it through the full show with no issues. Yours is the second or third really positive response to this production I’ve seen now, so I’m really looking forward to seeing this in a couple of weeks.

That’s ridiculous if it is only 4. Goes to show it’s only so they can claim to have £20 tickets to justify the high prices elsewhere.

It's a really small theatre, and there were cheaper tickets available (I'm not starting the row we are doing on the Cabaret thread as I've got a life to lead, but £20 tickets were available when tickets went on sale - I have two sets and both are in excellent locations) Cabaret has 6 lottery tickets, I'm not surprised this only has 4. It's sold very well. Good for them.

An extra matinee has been added on Tues 12th April - on sale now on ATG. There’s currently a fair few seats in the circle and rear stalls for £65.

Saw last night and enjoyed very much. All the cast are great. Only negatives I would point out, I was maybe 5-6 rows from the back of the Stalls and struggled to hear Egerton at times. Not sure if that was a temporary mic blip m also the overhang is quite severe so I missed whatever was happening above the actor's heads with the neon light strips. Also I got a numb bum as those seats are not very comfy.
Shout out to the lady behind me who sounded like she'd brought all the components of a picnic wrapped in tin foil and proceeded to unwrap them one by one throughout the show, and also to the group down the row who got through two full bottles of wine, casually pouring each other a top-up occasionally and letting the two bottles clink around next to each other under the seat. Such fun.

Just out of this tonight. It's in great shape and is really quite gripping. It's funny, dramatic and quite poignant in exploring the inexplicable distance that can suddenly exist in a longterm relationship. The main exchange between Jade Anouka and Phil Daniels was terrific. Jonathan Bailey is on throughout and was great. Taron Egerton conveyed the hurt and helplessness behind the caustic retorts.
If I had a minor criticism it's that some of the theatrical balletic movements seem a little over familiar by now, but many of them do work well.
Packed house and it was very well received.
It did run the full 1 hour 45 without interval. I always thought it was a shorter play but it's meaty enough 🤭. Oh, and great music.

I’m assuming this must be the same, and after all people sit for longer at the cinema. However most modern cinemas have far comfier seats than your average West End theatre. Plus there’s the bathroom break issue - have those who’ve been so far found there’s people getting up to go to the toilet? That’ll be even more annoying and distracting at a play than at a musical! |
