I personally can’t see it coming over until 2023 at the earliest now they’ve just announced the Broadway re-opening, but I really hope it does happen... and Mr Lipkin would indeed be brilliant casting!

I am more than thrilled that Beetlejuice is coming back to Broadway. I'd like to see it in Germany and London too.
What would be the best theatre in London for Beetlejuice? I think they want a larger theatre so it has to be more than 1100 seats.
My first choice would be The Dominion. Second would be the Apollo Victoria - if Wicked is at the end of its run.
These are the largest theatres in London
The Dominion – 2,069
The Lyceum – 2,100
The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane – 2,196
The Apollo Victoria 2,208
London Palladium – 2,286
Maybe the London Palladium? What if Beetlejuice played the London Palladium but took a break from December 1 - January 16th for the annual panto. That's a really dynamic thought.
Is Hairspray really going to run in the Dominion. Maybe 4 months limited. I saw it last week and enjoyed it, but can't imagine it running for more than a few months.
The Lion King is here to stay. Frozen is just bad. Wicked has had seats available for years, and it's run for years.
Thoughts?

A downsized Beetlejuice sounds horrendous. By far the best thing about it on Broadway was the set, with Alex Brightman's performance a strong second. Without both these elements, the show really doesn't have much else going for it. When I saw it on Broadway I had high hopes, and I love the movie, but it just... doesn't work (IMO). The changes from the movie are vast - and most aren't for the better. There are some problematic choices in the narrative and lyrics (A young girl pining after a "creepy old guy"?) and the tone of the second act is distinctly more Addams Family than Beetlejuice. Even the numbers from the original - such as Day-O - are skewed from their on screen incarnations into something much less satisfying. Back to the Future has shown how an effects-heavy, 1980s, revered film can be transposed well to the stage. Any London-bound Beetlejuice needs reworking, looking to BTTF's strengths for inspiration. If it's just a scaled back version of what was on Broadway, I really can't see it doing well or lasting over here. |

I'd much rather see it transfer to a middle-large sized house than a barn like the Dominion or Apollo Victoria (I don't like them) so would be good to see it in the likes of the Piccadilly or Savoy. I did think that Mean Girls would be a fitting transfer into the Savoy though.

Not this again acting like CM puts on BK quality shows in the West End. His "cheap touring versions" of shows have still been more impressive than 85% of the rest of what's on in London at the time and you know it. Miss Saigon and Mary Poppins were/are both excellent and perfectly fitting of the Theatre.

Who exactly is the market for Beetlejuice in the U.K.? I suppose it should be me and my peers given the age of the film but I’ve never heard anyone ever talk about it in the last 30 years let alone express a desire to see it done with songs.

I agree, but I'd also have said the same for heathers and that seems to have found an audience of a new generation. Also beetlejuice on broadway caught a younger generations attention. It would be fantasy escapism that I think a lot of people will be after when the return to theatres.
I could see it somewhere like the Gillian Lynne Theatre if it did come over.
