Catherine has been commenting on quite of performers posts lately She does. She follows Alex James Hatton, Sam Ferriday and the Bonnie and Clyde account. She turned 40 today so I would think she’s a bit old but it’s looking likely. Maybe she’s playing Blanche as I don’t think she’s a ‘singer singer’ is she? I guess it’s a smart move casting someone well known. As brilliant as the show is it’s not one that non theatre fans would immediately book to see in their local theatre so she might bring a few more people in.

Catherine Tyldesley wouldn't able to commit for long if her upcoming TV series gets a second series.

Catherine Tyldesley wouldn't able to commit for long if her upcoming TV series gets a second series. Maybe she’ll only appear at certain venues. That seems to be a regular thing for ‘celebrities’ in theatre these days.

Blanche is definitely a role that needs a singer, I think. It’s not a straightforward singing role.

She is a strange choice and not who I would have thought of at all but if she can sing well then great. She might not be in it at all though this is just speculation.

She is very much a ‘quite good being Tammy Wynette on Stars In Their Eyes’ type shenanigan, rather than an outstanding musical theatre actress. More Prenger than Paige.

What a bizarre cast list. There’s three Clydes, two Bonnies, two Blanches, and people doing small stints. Unless you do a vast amount of research you’re never going to know who you will actually get.

Yeah it's a bit strange. I kinda don't mind as I like seeing different portrayals across a tour, but if you want to see a specific person you definitely have to do some planning 😁 Between reviewing and volunteering I might end up seeing most of the combinations!

As a big fan of Catherine Tyldesley’s character in Corrie, this has me intrigued…

I'm guessing the producer are confident the Orchard and Royal and Derngate will be reopened in 2024.

On the B&C website, they’ve put the months that the different Clydes and Blanches are performing, but haven’t put venues e.g. Alex James Hatton is February-April and Danny Hatchard is April-October so don’t know when in April the changeover will happen
Edit to add: Looks like they’ve put it at the bottom of the What’s On Stage article. Alex will play Clyde up to and including Glasgow. Catherine starts the tour as Blanche, then Daisy takes over from Nottingham until Brighton, with Catherine returning for Birmingham onwards.

Looks like from 14 October onwards they’ll either be another Clyde or it’s not been decided whether Alex or Danny will perform as the listings says ‘TBC as Clyde’. Catherine is Blanche until 11 May then Daisy takes over until 27 July. Catherine comes back on 3 September, (unless further dates are announced in between). Jaz Ellington will be on for Preacher until 20 July. So Katie Tonkinson and Sam Ferriday are the only principles doing the full tour.

Katie Tonkinson absolutely stole the show as Valkryie in BOOH, she has an astonishing voice. Very pleased for her to be getting her big break and I’m happy the casting directors didn’t go for a predictable fan fave. I found it a bit ‘meh’ at the Arts Theatre but this casting will definitely get me to revisit the show.

Saw it at Curve. Not my cup of tea. The production and performances are enjoyable but the songs are completely forgettable.

I didn't prioritise it high enough in London so missed it; may travel to a 'near London' venue if it seems worth it - but with travel costs I'll find out how many board members regularly feel.

I did see some Broadway youtube videos a long time ago which seemed promising, but I expect those were the pick of the songs, naturally.
