Surprised this didn't go for The Other Palace. After all it was workshopped there around the same time as Heathers, the venue has a good history of taking projects that were seen as very "American" and making them into hits in the UK, and it seems TOP has nothing booked post-Heathers. Oh it does, they just haven't announced it yet |

If someone does overhaul The Arts, please don't let it be like The Other Palace. The steep rake and lack of legroom is awful. I have to REALLY want to see something if it's there.
Anyone else remember The Arts being The Unicorn Children's Theatre?

Anyone else remember The Arts being The Unicorn Children's Theatre? At least with TOP there’s not a bad seat in the house view wise. The Arts you’re doomed if you have someone talk in front. With such a low ceiling unsure how they could improve the rake there. It does need an overhaul it’s a cold, damp smelling rat hole at present |

Although not the news I wanted as ideally I would have liked them to say West End run with this very cast, but knew that would never happen.
I think the producers are wise booking a smaller venue as they don't know how popular it will be especially as its more of a "cult" musical than mainstream.
Not one of my favourite venues as its very grubby but at least its West end and not on the fringe.
I think I'll wait for a cast announcement before booking as I was spoilt seeing the concert so it would have to be a really interesting cast for me to book.

Yes, it's a dump, but I think it's a good size addition to the West End and I've seen some interesting stuff there over the years that wouldn't have been suitable for the larger, more prestigious West End venues. Very happy memories of Closer To Heaven there too.

So these producers will join the legions of other theatre producers who have lost millions on Frank Wildhorn musicals. They all have their devoted fans but never enough for investors to recoup. PT Barnum was right.

I think it's a very strong possibility. Maybe he'll reunite with Christina Bennington as Bonnie? What's she got lined up? |

I was there last night and very much enjoyed the production - to think that they put all of that on its feet with five days of rehearsal and ridiculously little tech time is mind blowing. Amazing atmosphere and very warm reception, great performances across the board. Not sure that the material itself can put 'Bonnie & Clyde' among my favourite scores / shows, but I am definitely very happy to have experienced it, and may go see the fully staged production later this year, provided that they cast a similarly charismatic Clyde.
Now for a slightly unrelated note: bit of a long shot, but I thought it may be worth mentioning this here, because the person involved may actually be on this forum. Last night, when we were about to leave, my friend and I found a credit card holder underneath the seat next to ours in the royal circle. We left the credit card holder with one of the ushers on the ground floor just by the bar, and advised them of the exact number of the seat the owner was sat in, in the hope that the theatre may more easily be able to hand it back to them.
So yeah, if the owner is reading this and didn't manage to get back to the Royal Drury Lane last night, you may want to contact them and they should hopefully be able to help.

I was there last night. Very happy to have seen it, with a fantastic cast and in a production that was very much more developed than I expected - I echo others who have said what an amazing job they did with so little rehearsal and tech time - but the show itself is not one that's calling out for me to see again (especially not at the Arts!).
By the sounds of it, they'd reorganised the queuing system for last night - those who'd pre-ordered a programme queued down the outside of the theatre (Stage Door side) and entered through the Frozen shop to pick it up and onwards to the foyer, which was not overly crowded as a result. The delayed start (about 25 mins) was down to technical issues.
The three writers were again in the audience and joined the producer on stage at the end, Don Black saying a few words. I'm hopeless at identifying people behind masks, but did see that ALW and his wife were in the house.
In other news, it was my first vist to Drury Lane since it reopened and I was impressed with the refurb (especially the ladies loos!), the theatre looks beautiful. Also impressed with the incredible sensible bar prices (by London standards at least) - ATG take note!

I see another musical that has got a 1 star from a board member. I do wish that people who give these 1 star ratings would also post their views, no matter how short it is. Would be nice to hear why people dislike shows that others seem to enjoy. We aren't going to stone you! and it's interesting to hear other viewpoints.

Maybe the polls should list the people who voted for each star rating....just like it says who liked a post. Stand by your convictions!
What would people rate the show itself, Rather than the concert as a whole?
Did they do the complete show, with the scenes in between the songs included? I've only heard the score which is 3* at best.

Would be nice to hear why people dislike shows that others seem to enjoy. We aren't going to stone you! and it's interesting to hear other viewpoints. I've also noticed that several shows with polls available have received a single 1 star rating. Beauty & the Beast, Frozen, She Loves Me, and Anything Goes are other examples. I was wondering if mods can see who places votes in polls ? If most or all were the opinions of different people fair enough, but if it's the same person it does seem unlikely to be a genuine one star " I was there and hated it" experience. |

I once left an accidental rating on a poll and it was lower than the majority. I didnt even realise i had done it, but i got msg from the mods questioning it. I removed it immediately because it was an accident. I would hope that the mods have done the same to other posters, especially the random 1* ratings that have appeared. I imagine they ignore it and leave it there. I can hazard a guess at who it is too, but i won't.

I've just checked the two bootlegs I have, the Broadway one is 2 hours 8 minutes and then pre-Broadway is 2 hours 15. So it feels like we got most if not all of the book, but I haven't watched them yet 😁 |

I assume that, much like Heathers can you believe, that the success of this show hinges on the combination of "robbed" musical status and a good bootleg to go around, plus a good quality cast recording, all make for a frenzy online and within the musical theatre circles. it's a curious phenomena! |

There were a handful of scenes with Bonnie and her mother which I don't remember from Monday (or I've blanked it) but otherwise most of it was there. |

So this gets more interesting....
The 2009 San Diego tryout had more talking, a different opening and ending, changed dialogue, additional scenes, and a significantly different score. No sign at all of "Picture Show", "When I Drive", "Raise A Little Hell", "Made In America", "Too Late To Turn Back Now" or "That's What You Call A Dream", and "How 'Bout A Dance' reduced to a smaller song near the end. The original songs in their place (and others for secondary characters) were nowhere near as good. And Laura Osnes and Stark Sands only had a fraction of the chemistry that Laura had with Jeremy. The reworked Broadway version (and subsequently the version we saw this week) is vastly superior.
I don't condone bootlegs but they don't half reveal some fascinating stuff!
