I could have sworn we had a thread for this but I can’t find it. TallPaul will no doubt tell me where I’ve gone wrong! Seriously “The Making of Spend Spend Spend” on Barbara Dixon’s YouTube channel is the nearest thing to a Victoria Wood parody Ive ever seen. I saw the show in its west end run back in ‘99 when I was working at the Millenium Dome (don’t ask). Loved it (the show not the dome). ALW didn’t, he was there the night I was and he left at the interval. Then I saw a Craig Revel Horwood actor/musician tour at the lowry a few years ago which I really liked. |

I saw it too. Was it Piccadilly theatre?
I bought the CD at the theatre after and I think it was never sold commercially so original copies were worth a lot. Then a few years ago they re-released it so now it's worth nothing.
Great show though.

I loved this show and it had quite a successful run to the point they recast it.Diane Langton took over from Barbara Dickson and then it came off!I think it was a case of not making its "break figure" for a couple of weeks and it's "tata". LA CAVA which had the money behind it and up to then had only run for 6 weeks at the Victoria Palace transferred to the now empty Piccadilly. Was that to make way for the similarly successful ‘always’ or was that later? |

I think quite a few of the London company went out on the tour afterwards - saw it in Bristol with Barbara Dickson and Rachel Leskovac and loved it!
Mind you, I really liked La Cava as well…

Wonderful Show. One of the finest performances I’ve ever seen from Rachel Leskovac who is also superb as Natasha in Corrie. Barbara Dickson and Steven Houghton were great too..,

"Always" (ironic title!) ran for two months in 1997. At the time I said that "Always" should have been called "9½ Weeks" because that's how long it ran. Mind you, I really liked La Cava as well… I liked La Cava too. I also like its souvenir mug, which looks cool (but is curiously prone to staining inside). |

I suppose there are two possibilities, BurlyBeaR. Either you are right, for once, and there isn't a thread, or there is an old thread that predates my membership of TB. I can't remember what I never knew! 🙂 Anyway, thanks for reminding me about Trouble at the Top, which I shall enjoy revisiting when the summer TV schedules are given over to sports. It's where Kinky Boots began life, though I don't hold that against it. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the ones about the Millennium Dome...or were you less of an exhibitionist back then? |

Some great songs in it, but also some terrible stuff too. Poor Sheila Ferguson seems to pick terrible shows to appear in. Shani Wallis had a great song in it. I dont know anyone else who saw it. I also have 2 copies of the CD for some reason. |

Id like for the show to come back. It would be great for it to to return to WYP err I mean Leeds playhouse
The cast recording I've found on Spotify - hurrah.

On rearranging my theatre programmes I found I had seen Spend 3 times:
June 1998 at West Yorkshire Playhouse as it was with Rosemary Ashe / Sophie- Louise Dann
December 1999 at the Piccadilly with Barbara Dickson and Rachel Leskovac
July 2001 at Theatre Royal Newcastle again with Barbara and Rachel.
I always enjoyed this and hope it will make a return.
