Just delete the theatres. This didn't meet the heady heights of 'The Exorcist' for me although I did enjoy it! Absolutely!i think it’s nice to see where shows have moved around. |

Love me some melodrama trash, with beautiful people acting (badly, sometimes) - I’ll be seeing this in a two day show along with My Neighbour Totoro. Been curious about this for a while. If it’s anything as good/bad as The Exorcist I’ll love it. Unfortunately, it's better than the Exorcist.  Each to his/her own. Exorcist was great fun when I saw it on its initial run at the Birmingham Rep. 2:22 left me bored. |

Well, I was curious about this weird show that seemed to be transferring all over London (is that a thing here? I'm an American, this baffles me), and about which I had heard exactly nothing on the other side of the pond. But I figured, what the heck, I'll give it a chance, and I found it entertaining and except for the jump-scares, completely forgettable. (The first jump-scare caused the stranger next me to clutch my arm and scream in my ear like a banshee; she apologized at intermission. Fortunately, it is in my nature to forgive.)
And I can sort of forgive the play, too. Yes, it's ridiculous and attempts to cover too many themes (science vs. faith; gentrification vs. preservation; labor vs the professoriate) but it's certainly executed with energy. (In fact, it's one of the few plays I've ever seen that could stand to luxuriate a little: I felt like I was watching a speed-through.) So: I guess I'd give it a 2.22/5 stars. Heh.

I went to see this last week, for the first time, having taken advantage of a very cheap offer for theatre week on Today tix. I was front row, so really good view for my £15. enjoyed it ok- it clearly is a winning formula for the general public, as the theatre was full and it's been going for so long, people (maybe the same public who goes to the more mainstream things like the big musicals) must like it. Nothing wrong with that, I hope it continues!
It is entertaining, yes I could have done without the screams, but other than that, it was engrossing and the actors were all very good. Certainly different from the usual sort of play I go and see, this one doesn't require the brain to work too hard to understand nuances, as there are none. I would say it's comparable to watching a run of the mill horror/thriller at home.
Might go again with a friend, just for a laugh, if/when they change the cast.

Can we open a book on who the rest of the cast will be? Put a fiver on Simon Russell Beale, Rosy McEwen, and Mr Blobby. Rosy McEwen has a clash in that the first perf of 22:22 is the same day as the last two performances of Othello at the National. They’ll need to get Su Pollard to do that first preview unless Rosy can be unshackled from the NT. I hear her Desdemona understudy is Maureen from ‘Driving School’ though & considering I’m attending the matinee that day, I can’t wait! |

Aside from anything else, Scott Karim was great in The Invisible Hand at Kiln and so I'm pleased to see him get such a role.
