"It will "present a “more equivalent relationship” between the Macbeths than is usually shown, according to the Almeida’s artistic director, Rupert Goold."
So that means Macbeth will be a less of a weak and passive figure in the relationship than is normally portrayed and Lady Macbeth will be a less dominant figure ? Why would that be a "feminist" Macbeth ?

Being a Yael Farber's production I can't wait to see the witches constantly walking around the stage like

We had dancing witches at the Young Vic directed by Carrie Cracknell. Didn't work.

This will be such a hot ticket, but I will be more than willing to max out my credit card for this - what a cast!

Hmm. I had decided that Macbeth was not for me and I would not repeat the experience. But now... I'm sure it'll be difficult to get a ticket though so maybe the decision will be taken out of my hands!

This is probably another occasion where I can surprise most of you by saying I'd never heard of Saoirse Ronan until I read this thread. James McArdle I know of course, very good, but I had forgotten he'd been in "Emperor and Galilean" at NT which was a thankless task for both him and the audience.

I just had the bright idea of coming here to say that the first person who says they've never heard of Saoirse Ronan wins a fresh pack of scouring pads - the type used by Lady M herself (Waitrose). I know you're probably not a cinema person so can be forgiven for not knowing, I won't 'barnaby' you. She does have four Oscar nominations to her name so I'm sure she'll be good value. She was in The Crucible a few years back on Broadway.

I am really struggling to see how you pit a feminist slant on Macbeth.
The two key non-magical women have always struck me as determined, strong-minded individuals. Yes they are driven by different things but are equally not afraid to fight for their own corner.
Lady Macduff is fiercely protective and loving. Yes she is a victim of murder in the end but she is not a passive one.
Lady Macbeth is a fighter for her own advancement as well as that of her husband. She has her own demons that eventually overwhelm her but is still a character with passions and strong convictions.
The three weird sisters are drawn from various traditions including the Fates and Cunning Women. They represent something elemental, connected to the powers of nature and the earth. They also represent to power of an educated woman - building on the knowledge of their forebears.
Given these elements are already writ large in the text, I am somewhat perplexed as to how you make it a more feminist production. I don't believe that cross casting some of the roles would aid in that unless Macduff is at home when the murderers come a knocking and Lady Macduff takes up arms but that would be a major change to the text. Having a Queen Duncan or Malcolm wouldn't add anything significant.
Goold is capable of reimagining Shakespeare brilliantly well. But I am struggling to see what is gained by seeking create a feminist Macbeth when it is already a piece with strong representations of the feminine - women in an overwhelmingly male society who make their mark in remarkable ways drawing on their own powers.

I remember Hamsptead has an enjoyable RSC production a few years ago of 'After Macbeth' where Lady Macbeth didnt die and it looked at the issues of ruling Scotland by Macduff
Its called 'The tragedy of Macbeth' so im thinking its going to be VERY reimagined

Saoirse Ronan! Wow, this is exciting! I have been waiting for her to make her London stage debut ever since I heard about Broadway. I absolutely adore her, and think that she is a fantastic actress - she hasn’t done a bad film. Take my money now!

Almeida is Olivier-eligible? Quick doubt here, but I believe ''The Doctor'' only played there and it was nominated for Oliviers, right?

Ahh, yes, I saw The Crucible on Broadway! So I don’t need to sit through Macbeth again just to tick Saoirse Ronan off the ‘seen on stage’ list.
Hurrah! I keep declaring No More Macbeths and being lured back in by the casting, I might actually hold out this time.
(I don’t know why Macbeth doesn’t agree with me. It just doesn’t.)

In the past theatres on that Affiliate list have switched status from one year to the next but it seems at the moment the Almeida are eligible for main category awards. I also agree with your implication that big film stars are very attractive to the Olivier judges irrespective of the quality of their stage work - a nomination at least is certain. solt.co.uk/about-london-theatre/solt-member-theatres/

I hope I’m wrong but I had tickets for Meaning of Zong in Bristol for mid September and that’s been moved to April due to ongoing uncertainty/lack of time to prepare.

So from that I’d assume some news about the production this week or next week.

Probably not too many, but let's hope the Almeida will be fair and leave some for us who are non-members. (I am admittedly considering if I should renew my expired membership now...)

Going to leave it to the Theatre Gods who have been very kind of late with tickets for what I want to see being readily available.
Wonder if this will be similar to the Donmar where tickets were easily available for their ‘star’ turn, do not really know who the ‘star’ is and am only interested in the play and could this convoluted release of tickets be a psychological ruse to get us to buy.
