There is one seat in the gallery for Manchester's opening night - surely they haven't sold out the entire gallery, especially with almost all the circle still on sale as well as a fair bit of the stalls. I'll be there on Tuesday and I'm quite excited to see ehat this is like! I'm there Tuesday too. Front row seat!

I'm a bit further back, can't wait for a bit of Cher on a rainy Tuesday night.

Well, it delivers on camp, no doubt about that. It treads a fine line between homage and parody to the extent that at times it feels like it’s taking the piss which I don’t think is the intention. Or is it? I had a nice evening but I can’t help thinking it was a missed opportunity. It makes Tina! Look deep and meaningful. We get hints at her relationship with her mother and we get a repeated story about her problematic relationships with men 3 times which are all pretty much the same and was boring by the third one. The rest is soundbites about acting on Broadway, moving into films, relaunching her career is covered in about 30 seconds. It’s superficial AF but maybe that’s what people want with Cher.
The ensemble’s black costumes.. hated them. Last week in the same theatre I watched Singin’ In The Rain where they had a different costume for every number. There was an underlying feeling of compromise with this, especially when ensemble members are playing speaking parts in most scenes in these very basic black dance costumes.
The three leads are great but as I said, it does creep towards parody.
Excellent finale which, let’s face it, is going to get Instagrammed and facebooked all around the country and is the thing that will put bums on seats for this.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bitches! (and poll added)

You've pretty much summed up what I was thinking there. Hated the ensembles costumes. Was very surprised that so much was spent on her earlier years and the 80s just passed by. From the front row the costumes of the three leads looked pretty good, but there was so much black! I'm probably sounding over critical as I really enjoyed it, thought all three Cher's sounded brilliant, with Debbie the standout for me. Bit too much hair tossing, kept reminding me of Jack Macfarland trying to impersonate Cher.

Out of interest how was the audience behaviour tonight? Respectful or the sing along crowd?

Out of interest how was the audience behaviour tonight? Respectful or the sing along crowd? Pretty well behaved on the whole. There was a bit of whooping and cheering from the back of the stalls at the beginning of Act 2 but I think the pre show announcement seemed to have worked.

Out of interest how was the audience behaviour tonight? Respectful or the sing along crowd? It was good. Agree with Rich there was some sort of incident but it didn’t continue. There’s a very clear warning about phones and singing along at the start of the show (similar to Tina). There’s certainly a demographic for this though. Which includes me apparently. I’ll leave it at that.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ From me as well!
Had a really enjoyable night and the cast were insanely talented. There wasn’t much of a story but I was just there to hear Cher songs being belted out all night.

I have to say I thought Millie O’Connel’s version of Cher was hilarious. She goes IN on those mannerisms and doing Cher as a toddler WITH those mannerisms was crazy but very funny. Also, the double-clap. Spot on.

I reviewed this in MK on Tuesday, this fell very middle of the road for me.
Cheap set, lacking the dazzling wow and high Camp spectacle you'd expect from Cher. A bit too long with some obscure song choices that could've been cut. Danielle Steers sounded sublime, and Samantha Ivey was on for Debbie Kurup in her debut. She could've sounded more like Cher but had a great voice. Millie O'Connell was way too OTT for me, basically a gurning caricature. The finale comes as a bolt of high energy which is lacking for most of the show until that point.
I'm watching the Broadway version now (thank you YouTube), dear God Stephanie J Block is brilliant. Costumes and sets are way better than ours, and the script and delivery also do a far better job of getting Cher's personality across, it's far funnier.

They had close to a 3 million dollar costume budget on Broadway, and they were all designed by Bob Mackie...anything was going to pale in comparison.

Saw this in Woking tonight. I actually came out enjoying it far more than i thought i would, but probably for the wrong reasons. Millie O'Connell. When that girl commits, she really goes full in on it. Her 'Babe' Cher was hilarious. The mannerisms, the facial and body tics, the voice... the way she looked and moved reminded me a bit of Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas, that kind of stop motion movement. Danielle Steele has the most gorgeous voice and deserves to do bigger and better things in the future. My main thought on Debbie Kurup was that she would be a fantastic Shirley Bassey one day, because that's who she sounded like at times.
Were they too cheap to pay Bob Mackie for his creations, or did he hear the Cher impressions and think i don't want to be associated with that production? Poor Bob Mackie comes across more like that Australian comic character, Bob Downe. It was so OTT and i'm not sure why his character got a tap number, with the pre recorded taps. They didn't even attempt to to make any of the costumes look like his famous creations.
The ensemble in the awful black costumes, which looked a bit like sailors outfits, just made the whole thing feel even more 'cruise ship show' than it already did. They were a bit lackluster. For all it's faults, it was a fun night out! I might even go again in January when it gets to Wimbledon. God knows what state 'Babe' will be in by then.
And a special mention to the ushers at the New Victoria Theatre. On the way in, there were signs about not singing during the show and they were not shy about enforcing it. If they saw or heard anyone, out came the torch with it's powerful beam and it landed on the culprit and shut them up immediately. It was great. There were enough bad Cher impressions on the stage, i didn't need them in the audience too.
