Wait... what? It’s not confirmed? Has Someone in a tree been uncharacteristically hasty? Do we need a question mark in the thread title? Questions, questions.

Utterly thrilling news for JB who is superb (will reserve judgement till I've seen Eddie). I'd basically like anyone BUT Jamie Lloyd to direct this - I just don't get on with anything I've seen of his. But this will be a hot ticket for sure. Ditto. The only thing I liked was his staging of Passion. His recent stuff has left me cold, and some of it has just been a mess ( Evita). Really been wanting to see a revival of this one though for years, especially as I avoided the Kenwright one.

Now THAT is someone I'd like to see direct it. Also I'd basically like to see her direct anything but Marianne Elliott too.

Would love to see her do a musical (she's kind of dipped her toes in it in her plays). Excited for her doing the Great Gatsby musical with Florence Welch, hopefully since it's got British creatives we might see it here soon after or even pre-Broadway, but I'd happily settle with her doing Cabaret if not!

What about Anita Dobson as Fraulein Schneider? And Peter Polycarpou or Henry Goodman as Herr Schultz?

Yay! You can’t do Cabaret without chairs. Lots of chairs.

Love or hate Kenwright - his Cabaret was fantastic

Love or hate Kenwright - his Cabaret was fantastic I think that's a question of opinion. I thought it was 'fine' but a production like that needs strong leads and I never saw anyone strong in that production.

Actually the Bill Kenwright/Rufus Norris production originated many years before that thread. Though I haven't seen any of the most recent incarnations of it - the original production at the Lyric in 2006 with Anna Maxwell Martin, Sheila Hancock and James Dreyfus really was very good, possibly better in some respects than the Sam Mendes(/Rob Marshall) version. Both of these versions were so high concept that poor casting could completed unbalance them. That was certainly the case in some of the Broadway cast changes - and it sounds like it was the case with some of the tours here.
It's definitely time for a new production. I don't think it does theatre any good to wheel out productions 28 or even 15 years after they originated no matter how definitely/ground breaking they were considered to be.

Excited for this. I finally saw the BK version on its last tour, having avoided it previously due to the Will Young Issue. John Partridge was fantastic as Emcee. I was a bit scared going in as he had ruined La Cage for me the previous season, being a touch too aggressive in the part and sounding like he was in Weatherfield rather than Saint Tropez. But in this he completely bowled (excuse the pun) me over.

I love Anna Maxwell Martin but she was a disastrous Sally Bowles.
That whole production was nasty and not a patch on the Sam Mendes one.
Don’t let us down Jamie!

Thanks. I can't really say more. I work in the industry, I don't think this is Jamie Lloyd. I'm intrigued to know who is producing it. Time will tell, I may be proved wrong.

Does anyone have any idea of dates for this? And I wonder how long Jessie and Eddie would be contracted for? And the question is…which theatre is available?

I think this might be Rebecca Frecknall. Or Jamie Lloyd. Or somebody else. Definitely one of those. Hot off the press. You heard it here first.
