Announced today at the same time as the big Wicked announcement Sunny Afternoon is extending to October. Was a big fan of the original cast but no so much of the new cast. Would be great to find out the tour cast soon.

When is it the tour starts? August, I had presumed that with the London show booking until June originally some of the cast would transfer over but I guess it will be a clean sheet and probably not announced until nearer the time. Would really love to see Adam Sopp, John Dagleish and Lillie Flynn back on stage again. Saw Edmund Derrington in Midsummer nights dream at the weekend, he was great. Also looking forward to seeing George Maguire in the Buskers Opera and Dominic Tighe in The Threepenny Opera soon too

I was wondering if they'd just transfer over too.

Just announced its closure 29th October. Real shame but fingers crossed for a good tour cast. Some of the original cast would be incredible although that is just wishful thinking.

Not a surprise it's closing but it's had a great run. Wonder what's next for the Pinter, I think it might be Nice Fish

It's had a great run, went for a 2nd time last week and loved it again!!
Nothing will quite beat Ray Davis coming on stage on my first time, plan to see this again before it bows out in October.
Think it will do well on tour

Think it will do well on tour The tickets are very expensive here in Cardiff so there must be confidence that there's a strong demand for it.

This show has done much better than a lot of people (myself included) were expecting when it first came in.

The amount of cheapies and freebies I've been offered, I am gobsmacked it's running as long as it is, but hey, it's been a great run. Just hope they tone the volume down a little for the tour, it was pretty painful at times in the Pinter.

Yes it is loud @ the Pinter but I wear a hearing aid & sat in "the loud zone". - Loved it.

The Olivier win likely helped but I guess being in a small theatre like the Pinter doesn't leave much wiggle room for discounting as it means you're losing money on a quiet week.

Finally saw this yesterday Evening. My original plans were to dayseat for Funny Girl, but with the beastly weather yesterday, I changed my plans.
I liked the show, but not so much that I need to return for a 2nd viewing. I'm not the biggest Kinks fan (in fact, I only knew Lola, Sunny Afternoon and You really got me), but I really liked the music - and the volume. Yes, it was loud, but I love listen to loud (rock) music.
However, I thought that the book and storytelling let the show down. And I didn't like the actor-musician thing. Not talking about the actual Kinks, as it made sense for them, but rather the ensemble. Their Austrian manager on the drums, their two other managers and two police officers playing trombone and random other ensemble playing guitar, banjo and so on - odd and simply didn't work for me.
I was in the Dress Circle, and the upper two levels seemed to be closed.

Was thinking of seeing this next week, but would I still enjoy it if I haven't heard much Kinks music before? (More of a Beatles fan - sorry!)

Finally got round to seeing this today, since it's closing soon and I do like The Kinks.
There are a few jukebox musicals that I like. This wasn't one of them. I am baffled that it's lasted so long.... The cast were fine, but I thought the book was completely tedious. Also too loud such that I mostly couldn't hear the lyrics.
Nearly everyone else in the (packed) stalls seemed to be loving it though - I felt consoled that the man next to me seemed to share my feelings.
It's nice to see shows do well, but I'm mystified as to why this one did. It hasn't challenged my opinions on jukebox.

Hmm, tedious is the word I'd use too. Happy that so many people loved it, but I for one wasn't a fan. Great music and a wonderful cast though, as you said. But the repetitive story was just dull. Also, and I know I say this alot, but 'stop singing and talk to me' (well, that or thereabouts) is one of the oddest lines in any musical ever. Ordinarily songs are performed as dialogue would be and not acknowledged, or performed out to the audience or another character in a kind of gig form. I didn't understand what Sunny Afternoon was going for sometimes.
Beautiful is the only jukebox musical I've seen that I thought really brought the story, characters and songs together perfectly. (although I am partial to the Jersey Boys, WWRY and American Idiot cast albums every now and then!)

I'd been wanting to see this almost since it started - I'm not really sure why as The Kinks were before my time and I don't really know many of the songs, but I like that sort of music and the performance at the Oliviers got me intrigued. I went to the tour yesterday afternoon, and was glad I went but wouldn't rush to go again. It was fun but there didn't seem to be a lot of storyline, and at times it was LOUD! I got a very cheap seat on the end near the front, which meant I missed a large corner of the stage but it didn't matter for this type of show as I could just listen to the bits I couldn't really see. I loved how the cast were in the side aisles a lot, and a lot of that was going on right by me so that made up for what I couldn't see on stage. I also liked how the stage extended down the centre aisle. I didn't know many of the songs but I loved Thank You for the Days - I didn't realise that was a Kinks song, and I thought it was done beautifully.
