The tour Joe is such a babe. Though I do miss seeing Joe wearing a suit. It was an amazing statement.

There's no dancing.
Apart from the tango.
So why?

I really don't like him, and I have no reason why. He just irritates me. I don't see him pulling this off if I'm honest...

This show is all about HER.
Danny just brings along the eye candy.

Really not sure he can pull this off apart from the bathing suit. And I like the tux better.

Do we know yet the plans with regard to the staging? I never saw the ENO production (one of my biggest life regrets!), but I always found the look of that set a lot more effective than what I have seen of the 90's set, which whilst lavish, I like the scaled down design. A couple of people have tweeted Ria Jones about the staging and her reply was that it is 'a fully staged production with the orchestra in the pit'

It's a brand new production, not based on the ENO at all.

Personally I like the scene played with clothes on. When I saw it the audience was so caught up in the little swimsuit no one payed attention to the song. Not that it was sung that great. Very meh. But talk about a difference in height. It works better in a tux. With a more dissolute attitude by the singer.
Totally agree. It was pure indulgence by the director.

Danny Macs' singing is average at best. He's No leading man for a show like Sunset Boulevrd. Oh dear. He's been cast for celebrity status obviously. La Jones is a virtual unknown outside only the most devoted theatre nerds.

Danny Mac to play Joe Gillis, not a bad choice at all Seriously? The budget must have all been spent on turbans for La Jones. I'd heard someone swept the floor with Danny Mac during Strictly for a good 20 minutes before they realised that he wasn't actually a broom handle. Easy mistake to make though I suppose. And people thought Michael Xavier was vanilla . . .

Oh no...I have really high expectations of 'Too Much In Love To Care' now since the ENO version, and there is no way that Danny Mac could even come close vocally. Maybe they should tone it right down and make it a whispered pop rock ballad?

What exactly has Danny done vocal-wise previously?

What exactly has Danny done vocal-wise previously? Well. According to his wikipedia page he did a turn as Gavroche in 'Les Mis' and was in 'Wicked' for almost 2 years and understudied Boq (though I'm not sure which one that is, I don't think it's the green one). So he has done some singing stuff. Plus he's doing 'On The Town'.

Didn't he also play Warner recently in Legally Blonde with Lucie Jones? Must admit his voice was okay but nothing that stood out to me but so it will be interesting to see how he handles this an On the town. But he is a great dancer.

I did see Danny Mac with Lucie Jones in Legally Blonde in Leicester. He really had only one musical number in Legally. Not a huge role.
Vocally he is very average - his strength lies in his dancing which he will not get to showcase in Sunset. Joe is the leading role too in many ways as the show is told through his eyes and he is rarely off stage. Clearly the producers are cashing in on his "celebrity" status after Strictly and Danny must be grateful at last for the work as Strictly has not boosted his profile as much as he might have liked.
I found him very nice eye candy on stage but there is no stage presence really. A case of a good looking guy with no personality - very bland. Plus, bless him, he is very small. I hope Ria is not tall - otherwise it may look ridiculous!

So he has done some singing stuff. Plus he's doing 'On The Town'. He is trained in musical theatre and was very good in Wicked. Boq is the tin man, essentially. I saw him a few times in that role and he was perfectly fine. Of course he is really an ensemble-er but his role on tv's Holyokes made him well known enough to be offered the role in Legally Blonde. He's said himself he wouldn't have been offered it otherwise. Same with Strictly and job offers since then.

He is rather good in On The Town at Regents Park. A good dancer and singer and Strictly has raised his profile so he is getting the work. He is rather small in stature though which must have restricted his being cast in leading roles in the past.
However, like Michael Xavier probably "too nice" to be a great Joe Gillis?

Just had a look at the show website and it says "Danny Mac is only performing at dates in 2017". So that's 8 out of 17 venues..

Milton Keynes is the last date of the tour in 2017 ending on 2nd December! The tour resumes in Bristol on 9th January 2018. Perhaps Danny Mac has been offered a lucrative panto gig? Getting "stars" to commit to a long tour is clearly very difficult - they are presumably keeping their options open for something better to come along.
