So it has been announced the Nash will be doing a musical a year going forward.

* sorry 'retreads' sounds wrong. I'd like to see a decent version of Godspell because I'm an aging hippy.

I’ve been asking for Pacific Overtures for a while now. Would be amazing to have another Sondheim on the Olivier stage and this would be a great way to advance diversity in theatre I think.
But Matt Hemley (The Stage) has said that Rufus Norris has already confirmed Martin Guerre, Witches of Eastwick and On Your Feet apparently?

Hoping it will be new musicals and that any revivals are in addition. We still have the Roald Dahl Witches coming hopefully (was meant to be last Christmas) and the transfer of Standing at the Sky’s Edge
I’d like the next London Road, something unique that we could only get from the NT.

Plus, lot of new British writing and rare shows by the likes of Kurt Weill & other established composers.

I'd like to see The Light in the Piazza. Having seen the PBS Broadcast, and then seeing it at the Royal Festival Hall, I think it's exactly the kind of show the National would do. Or even The Bridges of Madison County Piazza was done at Royal Festival Hall and from what I remember it didn't sell that well. Bridges was at Menier, again, stunning but still quite recent.

I'd love to see some original works or some American works that are unlikely to be done on the West End but deserve a big production (like Lachiusa's Giant that I mentioned elsewhere recently or some of the other shows mentioned in this thread already). Ooh Ragtime!

Tim Minchin has mentioned he is working on a new musical (more complex and darker than both Matilda and Groundhog Day) with a British playwright so maybe that could be one of them.

I’m hoping for a good mix of new British musicals (e.g stuff like London Road or Standing at The Sky’s Edge), and revivals of shows that didn’t get as big an audience as I would’ve hoped or just haven’t been to the U.K. yet (e.g. Next To Normal, A Strange Loop, Groundhog Day, Jagged Little Pill)

Standing at the Sky's Edge is a given as they said they're going to do it, so I'm excited to see what happens with that.
I hope they alternate between a lavish revival and supporting new musicals

Tim Minchin has mentioned he is working on a new musical (more complex and darker than both Matilda and Groundhog Day) with a British playwright so maybe that could be one of them. Last I heard, which was fairly recently on a podcast, the lead producer (Andre Ptaszynski) died suddenly and that project so it has been kicked into the long grass sadly as Minchin was very close with them having done Matilda and Groundhog Day together.

Honestly, I can see them doing The Sound of Music. It could look great in the Olivier, and honestly, would probably be a cash cow for them. I’d like to see R&H’s Cinderella too, but I suppose ALW’s musical will stop that happening for the foreseeable. We haven’t had a South Pacific for a while either. I could see How To Succeed... working in the Lyttleton, I wonder if they could convince Daniel Radcliffe to do it all again for a London audience? Newsies was a good shout too. Got one this summer in Chichester!

There’s very little in the way of outlets for new British musical theatre, and the National could really help by investing in new shows. Thinking about recent seasons, Hadestown, although not British, did well for them didn’t it? Which proves there is an appetite for new MT even with no link to a movie or a previous brand. I’d be more excited about original shows being given that same kind of production value and support than yet another Sound of Music.

It's nice to see the controversy about the NT doing musicals is now a thing of the past.Yes - there was such a thing! What I would like them to do is either "invest" in new works, transfers from regional theatres of either new British musicals or well reviewed revivals - after all it is the National Theatre of Great Britain - and lesser known shows or ones that didn't make it over the "pond" for whatever reason.Let's face it the NT doesn't have to depend on a boffo to stage it.As long as they don't revive JEAN SEBERG.Any musical that starts with the lead climbing out of the car boot after committing suicide needs to stay in the past. More regional work please 👏 Not all about London.
