I'd love to see Jessie do it also. I doubt she'd do it though as I'd Do Anything was so long ago and she seems to have made a conscious decision to focus on being a classical actress. She's practically a major movie star at this stage so I'd say any stage seasons she does will be of limited duration. If the plans to make the (totally unnecessary) movie remake go ahead I'd image she'd be the front runner to lead it.

WAKEFIELD! Patty Powell's is, and always has been, based in the upstairs room of the divan centre in WAKEFIELD. Derek gives Miss Patty a special deal on the rent. 😉 If you want to learn intermediate tap in Doncaster then it has to be Cre8ive, one of the three best dance schools in the whole of the borough. Not so good at spelling though! ☹ Apologies. I was told that she travelled to Donnie for her tap...my bad. TAPS! She travels to Donnie for her TAPS. Pegler's don't normally sell direct to the public, but for Jane McDonald they make an exception. 🙂

Curve did a good production of it 5 or 6 years ago and Cameron lent most of his go to creatives to them for it, the set was very good in particular by Matt Kinley (Miss Saigon, Les Mis) so I always half expected that to make it to town but it never did.

This sounds like a crazy casting idea but imagine lin Manuel Miranda as Fagin This revival would probably have to be stunt cast really well for it to work If Lin can do a good cockney accent, then why not? Judging by Mary Poppins Returns..... he won't be Fagin anytime soon....

So, we ask again. What next for the Palladium?

So, we ask again. What next for the Palladium? With the recent announcement that Anything Goes is coming to the Barbican next year, my guess is that it will be either Beauty and the Beast or Oliver! that will come to the Palladium.

Beauty and the Beast is going to the palladium.. I thought that had already been announced?
Only for a season though. ALW no longer wants open run shows there so Oliver! Will not be opening at the Palladium. As I’ve said- that’s intended for the Prince Edward Theatre when Poppins closes (and goes back out on the road)
I wish someone would buy the Prince Edward from him so we have more exciting shows to watch there.

That's a shame, I don't see any reason for there to no longer be any open run shows at the Palladium. The Prince Edward is owned by Delfont Mackintosh, not ALW.

The Palladium is ALW but DMT might be involved in an Oliver! revival.

Too soon for Oliver, not long since the Drury Lane production, that had reasonable sales because of a tv reality programme and Rowan Atkinson.

Which is why he is putting Oliver (sadly) into the Prince Edward.

I'd imagine they're moving away from open ended shows at The Palladium because of the risk of flops. If a new show went in on an open ended run, concerts and limited seasons couldn't be scheduled and then the house could lose loads of business if the show closed prematurely. It has always been primarily a variety house and long runs are only a fairly recent phenomenon there.

It has always been primarily a variety house and long runs are only a fairly recent phenomenon there. That's a good point. The last open ended show at the Palladium from what I remember was 'I Can't Sing!', which was a massive flop and since then, all shows there have had limited engagements. Although 'Wind in the Willows' closed a week earlier than scheduled due to poor ticket sales, despite it being intended to be a limited run.

LW theatres get paid a LOT of money for the one night shows and filmed events at the Palladium. It’s a financial decision if nothing else to stop allowing open runs at the theatre.
Also hardly any producers want these 2000 seat theatres anymore. They do better business having less capacity and bumping seat prices up. No shows can sell out these theatres anymore.

I am not against limited run showstopper for the reasons given, that no one wants barns anymore, not even the most famous theatre in the world the grand old lady the London Palladium. That is why the Theatre Royal has had its capacity reduced. The Lion King is the only show that is doing well in the big 5 (2000+ Seats). Even Wicked has swathes of empty seats, when shows were running. Even though the one day and filmed shows do pay well, is this enough to cover the dark days around that event?
I would say the Madonna residence was a massive money spinner. But these are far and few between.
Even though the contract Panto has ended, in 2-3 years, this could come back in, if nothing suitable can be found.
Also a issue with limited run musicals some of these have been done with London Coliseum musical seasons and London Palladium and in due course you will run out. Apart from the current Lloyd Webber Joseph, I couldn’t think of another one of his shows that would be suitable for a limited run?
However London is still gagging for great productions of My Fair Lady, Oklahoma and West Side Story. You still can have one day and special filmed events (BGT or Michael McIntyre) just means you have to keep the theatre dark for that day or week.
A limited summer run that is selling well could easily spill over into Christmas season.

Baz has already announced the Lincoln Centre My Fair Lady will be at the Coliseum in March 22, which is good. Not sure how long for (whether it'll be the full 6 month slot from March to August or just 3 months).

There's nothing wrong with it if they cast a leading lady who can do the right accents...

Just get a proper British Eliza who can both the necessary accents well (sorry Laura Benanti but that ain't you) and you've got a hit on your hands. Someone on here has previously suggested Jessie Buckley who I think would be super.

Surely this will be 2022, as Hairspray is in next year.
I had more issues with Harry Hatton-Paton and a bust speaker behind my head, that was crackling and driving me up the wall.
