I was yes. Wasn’t it good? I think 42nd St probably pips it because of the sheer number of very big production numbers. Also, would it be terribly uncouth of me to say I thought the Barbican was stunning inside. The public areas I mean, not just the theatre. The concrete and that bright red. Fab. Completely agree - what a revelation of a venue. I'll be making sure we visit a bit more often, even if their programming is often a bit worthier than my own tastes! It's a bit like The National (in normal times) in that it's a venue to spend a bit of time getting lost, people watching and relaxing in. I was a particular fan of the Barbican's martini bar, mainly because I'm a lush.

My first time at the Barbican, it is impressive. The theatre felt more like a new studio theatre than all of the West End theatres, great seats, no restrictions, a great place. Loved the fire curtain, very unexpected when it closed during intermission, never seen something like that. Though it is a bit difficult finding the Barbican.

I never thought it was hard to find, but for me it's impossible to leave. I walk and walk and walk and after 30 minutes I realize I'm back at the foyer

As Richard Stilgoe said: "It is always better to start at the Barbican, than trying to find the Barbican later on."

From ‘The Thorn Birds’? Oh no…Just had a look on you tube and she seems a very capable performer…

Obviously it depends on what line you're coming in from, but Mooregate Station (Northern Line - City Branch) is very easy. City Road exit, right, left right. But coming in from somewhere else, I'm always lost. And because of all the building works going on, it never quite looks the same as the last time I was there.
I wasn't a fan of the show itself, but i'd have gone back for SJB, Rachel York, not so much. She is a great performer. She was in the London production of Kiss Me Kate a long time ago.

Is this also gonna be announced by Baz tonight along with the Moulin Rouge casting and Dreamgirls tour cast? Who says Baz is announcing the Dreamgirls Cast?

I just assumed it would be Baz because he announced Nicole’s casting last year and I think he announced Amber Riley 5 years ago, obviously not this time though.

Drama Desk Award winning actress that played Reno Sweeney in the latest US tour of Anything Goes - so she already knows the lyrics and the steps. Last seen in London a couple of decades ago in the West End revival of Kiss Me Kate with Brent Barrett, she replaced the late great Marin Mazzie.

Rachel was amazing in Anything Goes but that was nearly a decade ago and now she's 50. Not sure how I feel about this. If she can manage to keep up with the choreography, I'll book again. 50 is hardly old. Sutton Foster is 47.

The tour that never was surely has to be back on the cards after the success ay the Barbican. I do hope they don’t cast it on the cheap or send it round with some rubbish set and costumes 😕

Completely agree - what a revelation of a venue. I'll be making sure we visit a bit more often, even if their programming is often a bit worthier than my own tastes! You are right. Because it is really heavily subsidised by the City they tend towards shows that need subsidy. This was the first musical I've seen there since the opening of Les Miserables, not sure if there have been any in between ?.

Regent Park's Jesus Christ Superstar was at the Barbican just a couple of years ago.

To be fair, Chita Rivera is on another level of incredible, but yes Rachel York should no doubt be able to pull off the role still, and if her performance in Victor/Victoria is anything to go by (it's the only thing I've seen her in) she's got the comedic chops too. I've been tempted to see Anything Goes again anyway and she's definitely a good excuse to tip me over the edge!

They’re exceptions rather than the rule though I guess. AG has apparently broken all box office records at the Barbican so maybe they’ll be keen to do more?

Rachel York is only 4 years older than Sutton so it is not like there is a huge age difference.
