She definitely looked tired and/or zoned out for many numbers the other night I also went on Tuesday and thought her performance in the first half was right on, but after the interval she seemed flatter. (I thought she was particularly stiff in 'Blow Gabriel Blow'.) I'm wondering if a body can manage this schedule now (10yrs Later) she's 46 & not been on the boards for sometime. This 8 shows schedule can be demanding considering she's on stage the majority of the time in this show. Relinquishing a matinee to her cover may help (her but not the producers) or is it a case she just needs more time to build up the stamina.

If all of you were there on Tuesday evening, I'm just wondering why no one said hello?

I've seen Foster in most everything she has done in NYC. Every performer can have off nights, but she is not one I would ever think of as "going through the motions." No doubt getting her sea legs (pun intended) after a long absence from the stage is part of what some might be noting here.
She is a consummate professional and her performances are always highly polished. Perhaps that polish coupled with the slightly one-note nature of roles like Reno Sweeney and Janet Van de Graaff in The Drowsy Chaperone belie the true talent she brings to the stage.

If all of you were there on Tuesday evening, I'm just wondering why no one said hello? I arrived shortly before the show started, so had no time to look around. And spent most of the interval fruitlessly waiting in the endless queue for the ladies' toilet. We really do need a secret badge to wear at shows...

Joining the overwhelming majority here on 5 stars! So happy I managed to snatch a rush ticket for today’s matinee otherwise I wouldn’t have caught it. Blown away by the spectacle and talent on stage. Complete and utterly joyful.

YES! The stars of the show! My seagulls both flew into the side of the set the first time I saw it. I think they might have been 'dead behind the eyes'.

Somebody (somewhere) needs to arrange for this production to be professionally filmed!

Honestly a pro shot of this would be just stellar.
It's from the same people who produced King and I so it's not impossible...right?

Serendipity lent a hand last night. Looking for a show to replace the cancelled Bagdad Cafe, we ended up in the stalls at Anything Goes instead.
And what a joyous five-star affair it is. The older performers especially are top notch. Whenever Sutton Foster is on stage, you can't take your eyes off her, such is her presence.
I would have preferred the sound levels higher, for extra impact, but that's about it for negatives. So happy I got to see this production.
Act 1: 19:32-20:56 Act 2: 21:18-22:14

Just booked this in place of my cancelled Cinderella tickets. Feeling totally at ease with that decision! Now the only predicament is do I also go for Singin in the rain tickets to complete the classics?!

Anyone knows how long is the title number? It felt like 6-7 minutes but I'd love to know the exact figure. It's quite astonishing that she pulls it off 8 times a week. Just a freak of nature.

The recording is 5:44 and does appear to contain the tap break, but it could have been edited?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Trafalgar decide to film it for cinemas, I believe The King and I was successful when it released in cinemas and they'd want to build their slate of filmed productions.

I don't know how any* of the cast pulls it off... the whole thing is so high-energy! (*even the lower-energy roles participate in most of the big dance numbers)

So this is extending - will Sutton stay with the show until it finishes its extended run or will she be replaced? Looking to book a ticket now for late October but with a view to seeing her - when is she due back for Music Man rehearsals?

I highly doubt she'll stay after early October.

The Barbican website has now added back the statement about Sutton being currently scheduled to perform up until 10th October.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they bring in a decent replacement and extend again.
Hannah Waddingham was at press night… I could definitely see her playing Reno. She can sing and be funny.. could she deliver the steps though? I suspect so.

Bonnie Langford would seem the obvious choice, but I don't know, Sutton is so good almost anybody would feel like a step down. Replacing phenomenal casts is such a crapshoot. Get it wrong and it can kill a production dead (Miss Saigon revival), get it right and you still can't win, because the previous cast were so spectacular.

Tbh they could even just promote the understudy. It's just three weeks and many people are already booking without realizing that Sutton might not be there.

We’re not going to host repeated discussions and disagreements about race and casting. Most people have moved on a long time ago and none of the discussion in the posts which have now been removed added anything remotely interesting or new. Also posting comments known to be contentious or unacceptable to the wider community in order to get a reaction will not be tolerated.

Would those who've seen this recommend being closer or further back for best experience? Looking at the £85 seats just outside the £99.50 bracket in either D, E or K.
