15 Heroines Jermyn Street Theatre

Just watched the first of the trilogy, 15 Heroines, adapted from the Ovid; each play is made up of five monologues spoken by the gals we don't hear that much of such as Helen’s daughter and Paris’s abandoned girlfriend though in this first group we have Penelope whose story is more familiar. Excellent blend of the classical with modern updating. 
I enjoyed this because it wasn’t like watching something filmed or a tv play. It was as close to being in the theatre as could be. We watched in silence. What I missed is the communal laughs of course at the obviously funny lines which would have caused a laugh and pause in the theatre. Nice one Jermyn St. I recommend.

Just seen the Labryinth, I think I'm out of order. Need to think about that. I agree lynette that it isn't like a film or filmed theatre, quite different. I suspect different stories will resonate differently with people and appeal more or less as whilst linked they are all different. I've booked for a second and clearly now need to go and book the third or I'll be forever wondering.

I see this more-or-less sold out and it was covered in the Times too. Good work by Jermyn Street, they have been far more inventive and active than many more high-profile theatres who have done very little.

I think Labyrinth is the one that connects the women. The other two not so much in time but thematically. I would def see all, peggs.

Due to see the Desert tomorrow and the war on sat then hopefully we can share thoughts lynette. Good news that it's popularity has seen another date added and yes high kudos for this little theatre.

And to think of the three the Desert was the one I was least likely to see (based purely on knowing some actresses from the others), glad I didn't make that mistake. Dido. Canace. Sappho. Wow.

Okay I'm all caught up now lynette so tell me what you thought please? I think the ones I enjoyed the most were not necessarily based upon the quality of the writing or acting but rather how I related to the women. Being a Patsy Ferran fan I really enjoyed Ariadne, the guilt, the fury, the revenege. I really like Rosalind Eleazar's Dido, making her own resolution to her situation. Nathalie Armin's Phyllis' had the most novel way of getting revenge, Jemima Rooper's Briseis seemed to be most successfully turning the tables and Rebekah Murrell's Hermione was superb. Finally Eleanor Tomlinson's Canace was painfully good, such good timing, you could almost hear the unspoken other half of the interview and working out where it was going was deeply uncomfortable.

I loved ‘em all. I was bowled over by Ariadne, and Elinor Tomlinson, but really not a weak moment among them all. I watched them ‘in order’ and it started with a bang of a modern gal, loved it. What i really enjoyed was the quality of the production. As I said we watched in silence as if in the theatre space itself. More like this please Jermyn Street. The RSC is going to do some Troy monologues but no idea what text it will be based on.

Yes very well done, this was no rush job to get something out was it, properly thought out and executed, very professional.
Oh interesting, wait and see on RSC then.
