So, you have to cancel and reschedule. As we continue through these COVID times producers will have to realise that it is highly likely that this will happen. Having enough cover to run the show will be the key to audience retention and the likes of me having faith in being able to return to the theatre. They are charging top whack for (imho) a pretty ropey A tour, and if it gets a reputation for being threadbare It’ll only last so long.

Cancelling and rescheduling affects audience faith in booking to go though surely? And also for tours that have limited runs in certain cities, rescheduling is not going to happen. It’s fine for long running West end shows but it’s not like they can just add on additional performances to make up cancelled shows…..

Exactly. So have enough swings and a company ethos of ‘fun’ abstinence outside of their bubble. My original point.

Stopping the cast from seeing friends and family when they are off but allowing them to have a zoom quiz like the good old days of lockdown one….

I guess it might depend on how scared/respectful they are of their producer or company manager. I wouldn’t like Cam Mac giving it to me all guns blazing because I’d gone off raging in Soho instead of going home to a Horlicks and a Maeve Binchy. I guess it depends how seriously you take your job.

So you're suggesting they go straight from the theatre to their digs without going near any other human beings, stay at home until their call the following day, then go directly to the theatre without going near any human beings? For a year? How would you suggest they acquire food? How would you suggest they travel between tour venues? How would you suggest they see a dentist? Or see their children? Should the guy at the Stage Door desk also do the same? The people who clean the dressing rooms?
All this so you can be comfortable that you're going to see a show without a couple of understudies on?

All this so you can be comfortable that you're going to see a show without a couple of understudies on? There really is no need to be fatuous. I’m suggesting a healthy respect for one’s job and knowing that your behaviour potentially affects others. You can zoom in on the understudy point if you like, but I was actually more bothered by sitting through what felt like a skeleton cast stretched thinly so that the show could go on. Of course performers always have a reason or an excuse that paints the complainer as unreasonable, which in some cases it is, but my strike rate with this particular performer tells me that something else is at the core. NB- you see a dentist by making an appointment. An emergency one if it is an emergency. The nature of your work does not change after you have decided upon it. Touring artists should be made aware of all of this before they commit. It is in no way the audience members problem; and vice versa too. This ‘example’ is very woe is me and a bit whiney.

I'm being fatuous? Think about what you're saying. It's offensive to anyone who went out of their way, for whatever reason, to avoid getting Covid but still got it. Me, for one. It's also offensive to the people in this industry who have worked all the hours God sends to try and get things back up and running. If you have a personal take on someone involved in a show, then either say your piece or don't say anything at all.

I know lots of people who have had ‘fun abstinence’ as you call it but still have caught it. I’m intrigued as to who you think doesn’t take their job seriously! Anyway, it is Alyn Hawkes last official show as Beast this evening. He’s been really good I thought. I’m hoping to catch him as one of his other covers sometime.

I already did, in the specific thread. Please do not assume that I have ‘worked from home’ in the last two years. I have been at the sharp end of customer services throughout. I have full sympathy for anyone who has been forced out of work over that time, and admiration for those who have taken jobs outside of the industry to make ends meet. You painted a ridiculously regimented picture of what a performer would have to do to stay safe on tour. Whilst it is neither possible nor realistic to expect anyone to do so, there must be some performers who have wanted the opportunity their whole lives and would do whatever to mitigate against catching covid on a contract and I’m quite sure that they are out there.
None of this has anything to do with ‘Beauty & The Beast’, but please, I’m not trying to convince anyone else of my POV. Just put it out there.

I don’t know the situation on this show, but I’ve been constantly surprised at the behaviour of lots of actors in the last year, on trains and watching shows with no masks on, many of whom are IN shows at the same time. They obviously had a nice time not working for a year and it’s not that serious.

They obviously had a nice time not working for a year and it’s not that serious. Couldn't agree more. As a stage manager, I know lots of actors, some super professionals who turn up and do their own warm ups before the call, who politely decline drinks, leave through the side door to avoid stage door etc. And I know plenty who go on the lash on school nights, dabble in all sorts and generally act what I deem unprofessional in the current climate. Anecdotal experience and no, I won't name names or shows.

I see Alyn didn't even get to go back to his ensemble role - he went straight into covering Lumiere.

Totally in awe of Alyn Hawke, who across the run in Sunderland played Beast, Lumiere and Gaston as well as his ensemble track.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast will revisit the Bristol Hippodrome this year from 29 September until 12 November 2022. Pre sale opens 16 Mar with general sale from 18 Mar. Strange they've decided to take it back to Bristol and not anywhere else?

Did notice before the hippodrome had a large empty space for this period and presume a lot of tours for 2022 are planned now so it maybe a useful fill in and it was packed last year but had hoped something new would be coming in.
Will see the prices but likely to miss if it's the normal Disney ticket price increase on returning shows as while liked the show it's a bit too soon to see again at those costs.

I noticed the huge empty space onstage throughout the show. Is that the same? 😂

It was an okay vocal until the final note where he mangled the vowel into a may sound. This happens too frequently for my tastes and is often used to mask limited technique.
He can sustain that note on an eeee sound. No need to mangle the vowel.
