They might be treating it as a loss-leader - the comedy nights must be much cheaper to produce, and this helps get the word out about them.

There are going to be 390 tickets for each performance, and the theatre claims it will be employing over 140 people on site, including 70 performers and freelancers. I'll let someone else do the math!

I'd love to see Declan with Ricardo. Although they might have multiple casts and understudies in case anyone gets sick. That's great news either way.
If they're doing 70 performances in 6 weeks won't they need two casts just for the sheer volume of performances? At least for the leads. If they don't then I really pity any singer who has to belt out Gethsemene a dozen times a week!

News of the concert has made me happier than I have been in months. For peeps who have been to the Open Air Theatre before, is there a shadier side to sit on/favoured TB seats for matinees? |

Is it worth signing up for Priority Booking for £15? I still haven't figured out a good solution that allows me to wear a mask and see through my glasses, so it probably isn't worth me worrying about sitting at the front (without glasses, everything is a blur). Plus it's a concert version. Glad this is going ahead. I didn't take to this quite as much as some people on the thread, but I'm so theatre starved I will see (almost) anything! Have you tried dipping your glasses in a solution of a dot of washing up liquid and water and letting them dry naturally? Also, I find that the disposable masks with a wire (so I can pinch it closer to the nose) caused me to fog up less than my fabric mask. |

For peeps who have been to the Open Air Theatre before, is there a shadier side to sit on/favoured TB seats for matinees? In my opinion, for which I accept no liability 🙂, you need to go high. Ideally, you need to go both high AND high, but if you don't want to be high in the air, I recommend you focus on high numbered seats. Even then, you will need to take all the usual precautions. |

Do you guys think we’ll be able to select seats from seating plan at booking?
Working out how the booking software would cope with the distances between groups.
Only way I see us as being able to select is if they have already mapped the auditorium into groups of 1,2,3 and 4. Hopefully this is the case!
Also, I do wonder if demand for this is gonna be insane, leafing to difficulties getting tickets.

Thrilled this is returning to its original home, and even happier it's with Declan Bennett. I saw it during his original run as JC, and he was really special in what I felt was a thrilling production. The music and staging all came together so well as the sun set over the performance - everything getting darker metaphorically and literally as the show went on. I loved it.
It was the obvious choice when the government allowed outdoor performance, and I can imagine will work in a Gig-style re-staging. I really hope this is able to go ahead and nothing causes them to call it off a la SIX.
I wonder if they might record an album this time given concert-style staging might allow for a better/easier live audio recording?

The PM announced this morning that, from tomorrow, it is local authorities that will decide on targetted lockdowns. I've just had a measure and the OAT is 250 metres inside the Westmister boundary. (You might think that was a given, but a quarter of the park is in Camden.)
Now of course Westminster City Council will take its responsibilities seriously, but if any local authority is pro-business, pro-culture and pro-theatre, it is Westminster, surely!

I would kill to see Ricardo Afonso again, but I also really enjoyed Declan Bennett in the role. In fact, when I saw him in it I was hit by droplets of his sweat when he was whipped. Hard to imagine that ever happening again in these times...

I have to take back my earlier message - I misread posts on this forum and assumed Bennett had been confirmed. He hasn't as far as I can see, but I really hope he is as per my previous message. He gave a completely unique spin to JC and to Gethsemane in line with the reimaniging of the production which I would love to see in person again. Apologies to anyone who's hopes I got up! |

Yeah I agree - hopefully it's a very clever dynamic algorithm. Certainly the other option is restrictive. I just hope it's not a case of not being able to select seats as I like to know where I am sitting! |

That Peterborough plan is insane - as a single theatregoer I can only choose from 4 individual seats, but they're expecting over 20 groups of 4 people? 🤷♂️

You've started something here, @sharpe12! 🙂 The Peterborough plan is for when it's operating as a cinema. It's now a Selladoor venue, so the next 'theatre' production is the panto, for which tickets can be booked just as normal, with no social distancing.
