Why would it make any difference? It isnt covered by the current rules on maximum gatherings of 30! I don't think they were selling groups as large as 6 anyway.

The government is so good at sticking to their plan and never u-turning on anything. Of course they wouldn’t change anything on this matter. And the latest guidance is so crisp and clear, there’s no chance that anyone might think that the absence of a mention of theatres would be worrying. And yes, and the government is so focussed on getting the arts back up and running, their track record on this is so strong, that no-one in their right mind would ever think they’d prevent performances going ahead.

I was just researching the productions I’ve seen live, one was the arena tour with Ben Forster, Tim Minchin who I thought was dreadful in it and Sporty Spice. The one before that was a 2004 Bill Kenwright tour with Glenn Carter, James Fox (Fame Academy apparently) Tim Churchill and Emma Dears. I remember enjoying it but being distracted by sitting in the Gods at the Palace where the legroom was so tight we had to hang our legs over the backs of the seats in front which fortunately were empty. It was also terrifyingly steep. I’ve never stepped foot up there since. Somehow I missed the 2015 tour with Glenn Carter again, Rachel Adejeci (say that in the X Factor voice) and Rhydian Roberts who was apparently off sick for most of the dates. Of Glenn’s performance North West End said “If you didn’t know any better it could be Jesus Christ himself up on that stage” 😆 Glenn has done a lot of JCS! I saw the RUG Gale Edwards tour (sadly different from the Gale Edwards Lyceum production, with no John Napier designs) and sure he was also in that. And of course he did the staged film of the same production. Can't remember what year this was? Bizarrely though the Kenwright tour you refer to must have followed swiftly on. Never actually seen a Kenwright JCS!

There was a later Kenwright tour with Arvid Larssen as JC that did all the main houses. This possibly had James Fox as Judas but the mists of time are cloudy.

Thought Glenn Carter was terrible as Jesus - pouting and petulant after Balsamo's ethereal and graceful interpretation. As a Jesus for the current era, Declan Bennett absolutely nails it. His performances in the recent run are as definitive as Neeley's, where previously I had been unconvinced.

I think the Kenwright tour was the Gale Edwards version backed by his money. Not an ‘actual’ 18 shows a week, paper sets Kenwright tour.
...and I concur about Carter. Decent enough voice but really quite dreadful actoring.

Just got off my a**e and did a google/Wiki look up. So the RUG tour with Glenn followed immediately from London and was in 1998.
Then the 2004 Glenn one was Kenwright directed by Bob Thompson. There were also 2008 and 2015 Kenwright tours apparently - no idea if these were basically all the same?
So Glenn did London, then UK tour, then the video, then Broadway, then the Kenwright tour. He has played Jesus A LOT. Not quite sure how as people don't particularly rate him it seems.
(For me, I never loved JCS until OAT did it - just blew the others out of the water with it's truly contemporary yet timeless style).

Odd he was picked for the video/DVD and not Balsamo.

Is there an online programme or cast details for this? I've looked on the website but can only find credits for the creative team.

Some great pictures on there too

Such an incredible performance by all tonight. This was my second visit and I was so happy to see Ricardo as Judas again, his performance is just amazing, and I finally got to tick seeing Declan off of my list so was very happy about that, great performance again! It just feels so nice to have theatre back in some capacity.
Also, I may have been hallucinating/wishful thinking, but did anyone else who was there tonight see signs up about recording of some kind happening today? I didn't quite catch the full sign so I could be very wrong, but just interested to know if it said why/what it was (if it was even there at all!)
EDIT: I've just seen Official London Theatre were interviewing some audience members today about being back at the theatre so maybe that's what it was!

Pepe and Tyrone tonight.
I’m wondering if there’s an alternate Pilate on, as they are currently soundchecking trial before Pilate.

Ricardo just announced on Instagram that he will make a very exciting announcement tomorrow.
I’m not entirely sure that I think announcements about announcements are a good thing, but I am allowing myself a tiny bit of hope that it’s a recording of JCS announcement.
Although even as I type that, I think that the rules of PR mean he wouldn’t get to make that announcement.

There's still a statement on OAT page that it's not going to happen for copyright reasons.
