It definitely won't end up on Broadway as Jesus Christ Superstar has flopped there three times. The original production didn't recoup and both the Gale Edwards and Des McAnuff revivals failed too. I've never understood why Gale Edwards' touring production which was terrible transferred when everyone said her Lyceum production was great instead.

Ive wondered that too - everything that was so right about the Lyceum production was changed for the tour. Still, this is great news for Regents park, must try and get there this year.

Would've thought twice about seeing it without Tyrone. Disappointed it looks like there'll be no Cavin Cornwall.

Really not bothered about DB as Jesus - thought he was fairly flaccid in that role. But, really good news to hear Judas and Herod casting will be reprised by TH and PC respectively - they were both great!

I wonder if any of the cast will go with it when it opens at the Lyric Opera in Chicago in 2018? The only one I'd consider is Tyrone, but probably only if they expect it to end up on Broadway. He's really making a name for himself in london so I don't know if he'd want to cross the pond just yet. I wouldn't be surprised if Tyrone gets asked to go across with Dreamgirls, so if timing works I wonder if he might do this in Chicago for a bit then go to NYC for Dreamgirls (or vice versa)? Must book this and a return visit to Dreamgirls before he leaves that show (whether temporary or not!).

Dont know if this is new thread worthy but NBC's 'Live' show for 2018 will be Jesus Christ Superstar.

Maybe we should follow suit and screen a recording of the Regents Park production.

Has there been talk of this production transferring to the West End after it's summer season at Regents Park?

^Yes, they keep trotting that one out. Did it again last week. I think the truth is that it may not get quite the audience they expect in the West End, even if they do find a big enough stage - which is unlikely. Half the magic of this production is that vast open air metal grid, and if you can't do it on that scale, I suspect it would fall apart and you would be better off doing an entirely new version again... which we probably don't need just yet. It is a great production of JCS, but like you say, it's the outdoor staging that makes this special. It would die a death in a West End theatre.

My next review is now live @ Unoriginal Cast Recordings (original link here: bit.ly/2u0mp73)Enjoy! And now for the one you’ve all been waiting for… yes! It’s Muppet Christ Superstar! Wait… what? In case you hadn’t noticed, I love me a weird and wonderful cast recording. They certainly don’t come any weirder (I’m unsure about the ‘wonderful’ part) than this bizarre offering from 2014 by Christopher Graham. Now, I am admittedly breaking my own personal rule about only reviewing albums I personally own a hard copy of, and which saw an official release. But a musical based off Jesus Christ Superstar starring The Muppets is too tempting to turn down, so I’ll make this one an exception. This fan-made effort by Christopher Graham is completely unofficial – it uses pre-existing backing tracks and is in no way licensed. Created as a student project, the full, 32 minute album is freely available on Youtube and never received – or will receive – a physical release. IT IS JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR STARRING THE MUPPETS. Graham performs all the roles himself (including the backing vocals and “chorus”), an impressive feat that not even the late Jim Henson can lay claim to. The impressions are hit and miss – his Kermit (who plays Jesus (!)) is pretty much spot on. Some are less good; his Miss. Piggy (Mary Magdalene) is so-so, but his Gonzo (Judas) sounds nothing like him. But the fact he is making a generally passable stab at so many classic characters deserves credit. The writing is terrible – the jokes largely amount to swapping Jesus’s name for Kermit’s and features lines like; “If you strip away the myth from the frog”, which starts off as amusing but quickly grows tiresome. Particularly because it isn’t consistent and half the time the concept is forgotten about completely and the songs sung straight, with original lyrics. Substituting the odd word here and there and leaving everything else intact does not a parody make. His singing is also terrible, but this doesn’t matter. The singing in Muppet musicals is always terrible. Despite being a joke album, made as a student project, the irritating thing is actually the concept has some potential. With completely re-written lyrics and appropriate story adjustments, this could have actually worked as an (albeit extremely niche) comedy release ala Forbidden Broadway. Not that Disney or RUG would license it in a million years.

Is there a chance this could transfer to the Aldwych?

Is there a chance this could transfer to the Aldwych? I would have thought that if a proper West End house was on the cards they wouldn't be reviving it in the park.

Throwing back a bit to when this was on at Regent's Park the first time, we found out that Tyrone Huntley was originally Annas before he stepped into Judas. Can't remember whether we ever talked about/discovered who the original Judas was supposed to be, so apologies if we have, but in case not: today's bit of useless information is that it was supposed to be Ricardo Afonso. Not sure what happened exactly, maybe something vocal!

Interesting. I didn't know that. I have to say I'm very glad Tyrone got the role in the end.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I have to say I'm very glad Tyrone got the role in the end. Agreed. Tyrone as Judas and Peter Caulfield as Herod were the stand out principals for me. Hopeful to get to see them reprise this summer.

Tickets might be still available if you're lucky, you won't need to walk across Regent's Park Boating Lake for one, but it's worth a try to snag one. The Open Air theatre delivers again and weaves the magic of the outdoors, like only it can. This beats Monday's very very 'damp sodden squib', the park comes alive in this very well conceived revival. I loved every part of it from the powerhouse Declan Bennett singing Gethsamane, who could have passed as being Bono. Yes it was played out like a rock concert, but that didn't detract from the source, with delightful direction at play and evident here with the last supper being staged on the cross, so powerful symbolism at play here. Brilliant imagination how they done the 40 lashes, this is where my lips are sealed. This will transfer as heavily speculated, but in truth there is only one place to see this, in this one of a kind venue. This production removes those horrid memories of that arena tour ***shudder***, this will sent you out grinning from ear to ear. Caps a perfect week for revivals after seeing Half A Sixpence last week. A 5 star triumph. Nothing highlights summer more than a cricket test match at Lords and round the corner a show in the open air. Saw this tonight and my sentiments are exactly the same. Regent's Park made the triumphal decision and not to transfer this, but to reprise it again this year, this is a production that isn't earthbound and needs to sore and would be wrong to shackle it and cage it in a conventional indoors theatre, this belongs exactly outside in the Regent's Park Ampitheatre, where Jesus Christ Superstar comes alive as only the park theatre knows how to. Last time I was astounded by some excellent performances which was awarded with the Olivier for Best Musical, however this time what really stood out for me was the beauty of the score played by an 11 piece orchestra, which was half 'typical rock band' to play the rock score, which was complimented beautifully by a mini-brass section. Still again I was struck how they did symbolism very well. You don't have to walk across the boating lake to snag a ticket, but if you're not quick you might end up dissapointed as this is sure fire to sell out all over again, then again you can always go to the test match.

I'm going to this on Saturday, so excited as missed it last year and have only ever seen it on stage once which was a fairly poor tour about 12 or so years ago!

Got lucky and managed to get a return after about 15m wait. Row C, seat 22 - just about the perfect place in theatre as most of the action seemed to take place directly in front of us.
Aside from 15m technical halt during first half when main mics failed it was a great night. Never seen it before or been to the theatre. Drew McOnie choreography revelation after Bat Out Of Hell last week. Tyrone probably edged it on biggest cheer. 3rd show I've seen him in that I am aware of.
All round a very good performance and really enjoyed the outdoor setting.

Pleased you got a ticket and enjoyed the outdoors and experienced the magic of that special venue. Sorry you had a stoppage, but that is one thing I love about this theatre and that is that how random performances can be, for instance you could have a helicopter fly low over, which I had on Tueasday or a skein of geese overhead, or when the sun goes down bats flying around the stage.
Did you go with your wife? If so did your wife manage the seating okay?
I reckon out of any venue in London, this theatre earn the most money on foods and drinks?
