Alex Parker is reprising the concept of his Kings of Broadway (Palace Theatre, 2015) with this online concert currently being streamed on YouTube and featuring songs by Sondheim, Herman & Style:
A list of the stars featuring include: Liz Callaway, Michael Colbourne, Deborah Crowe, Jordan Lee Davies, Louise Dearman, Janie Dee, Fra Fee, Rob Houchen, Damian Humbley, Ramin Karimloo, Claudia Kariuki, Emma Kingston, L Morgan Lee, Rebecca Lock, Nadim Naaman, Anna O’Byrne, Fiona O’Carroll, Jamie Parker, Laura Pitt-Pulford, Clive Rowe, Jenna Russell, Lucy Schaufer, Celinde Schoenmaker, Caroline Sheen, Samantha Spiro, Laura Tebbutt, Michael Xavier and Alex Young.

All I can think is I don't remember so many musical theatre stars working in Sainsburys Sydenham when I used to live near there!

My only complaint was that he didn't encourage people to get ice cream during the interval. He mentioned many other things to do during the interval - but not that tradition.

This was a really nice production. Highlights for me were:
—Rob Houchen ... really acted Finishing the Hat quite well.
—Jamie Parker and Deborah Crowe. I did not know Jamie sang so well. That makes me even more angry that he and I are not married.
—Jenna Russell ... I Remember Sky is a favorite of mine
—Ramin Karimloo has really grown in his interpretation of Being Alive. He broke me.
—Louise Dearman did a lovely Losing My Mind, singing it as a proper torch song without the histrionics it should not include.
—Liz Callaway and Damian Humbley did such a contemplative With So Little to Be Sure Of.
And holy f$!k, who knew a socially distant Sunday in a Sainsbury would still make me burst into tears?

He has done a few musicals including Guys and Dolls, Assassins at the Menier and worked with Alex Parker in a concert version of A Little Night Music. I also remember seeing a cabaret concert at The Other Palace where, as well as singing, he played a variety of musical instruments. A very talented man. Agree about Sunday. Makes me cry everytime I hear it. |

Is it only me or does it try too hard to be like the Sondheim tribute? What are the specifics that you're thinking of here? Thinking back, it did mimic some of the design/approach a bit, but it wasn't something that crossed my mind while viewing. |

Some lovely performances, but nothing is better than that Gypsy overture, especially the trumpets. Honourable mention to Fra Fee for his adorable Who Or You Noiw?
Maybe mind your camera angles when performing in a bathrobe ladies, and leave the sweetie wrapper rustling to the audience.

Just caught up with this and thought it was excellent. So many great performances. Loved Alex Parker and his wife Deborah Crowe singing 'Too Many Mornings' (though it seemed to me like he was miming...the sound was different and there were no ear pieces) Alex Youngs 'Moments in The Woods' had some great choices in it and would love to see her do the full show at some point. Also loved Liz Calloway and Damien Humbly. Basically most of the Sondheim stuff.

All booked in the stalls and its a great deal, top prices are only £45 and cheapest £20
Plus what an amazing line up.

My thought is that Harry Potter is not due to reopen for a few months so the Palace is going to be available and they can slot The Show Must Go On as soon as they get the all clear. All the elements will be there ready including cast. So I'm more than happy for them to hold onto my money until they can reschedule and hopefully it will be a straight like for like swop. |

Brilliant performances tonight. I'd forgotten how high the stage was from the front row, but the singing was all towards the front of the stage and easy to see.
First half was Alex Parker on the piano and mostly solo singers. Second half added to the band with larger performances and much more energy. I think it was 26 performances in all over a two and a half hour show.
It was almost all Sondheim and I'm terrible with the names of Sondheim songs. The highlights for me were Bonnie Langford, a very nervous looking Sam Tutty (who I could see pacing in the wings before he came on), Tracey Bennett, Tosh Wanogho-Maud and a trio performance led by Michael Colbourne. The whole company came together to sing a socially distanced Sunday at the end, without amplification, with some of the cast on the stage and others in the Grand Circle.
A few microphone issues during the night, with a lot of them turned on late. Everything was audible from the front but may have been more annoying for people sat further back. Michael Xavier's microphone didn't come on at all, but he handled it well when he got a replacement.
A fun night and fantastic to see so many stars on stage. Just what we need right now.

Funilly enough I was sitting about 5 rows from the front of the stalls and remarked to my friend about how high the stage was. I am surprised you could see anything, mind you I am quite short. Pretty much agree with what you have said. Very well organised from Nimax and entry was very smooth running indeed. I felt very comfortable there and, after Covid, please don't put the extra rows back in the stalls. Its no nice to have plenty of legroom. As to the show it was a lovely evening. If I have any criticism at all it would be that it was a bit top heavy with Sondheim. I love Sondheim so was very happy but I think there could have been a bit more Jerry Herman, especially something from La Cage. Real mixture of new and established talent which was lovely to see. I agree with you on your favourites. Especially loved Sam Tutty's version of Not while I'm Around from Sweeney. I have never heard him sing anything apart from Dear Evan Hanson and he sung this beautifully. In addition I really enjoyed Jamie Parker and his wife's duet and Damian Humbley and Sally-Ann Triplets duet. Bonnie was fabulous in her tight sparkly number. That woman must be over 50 and looked stunning. Tracie Bennett was the highlight for me. I absolutely adore her and she puts so much into her songs. Icing on the cake was Sunday, which, as you mention was not amplified but the power that came from those voices was wonderful. Lovely evening and makes me miss live theatre even more. |

Thanks for that. There is some missing though as Sam Tutty was not the last. There were 2 or 3 more performers after if I remember correctly finishing with Tracie Bennett and Sunday by the whole cast. |

I was also there last night, also front stalls. It was a great night indeed, though most of the favourites from the previous posts were some of the worst for me. Tracie Bennett vamping across the stage and giving a performance that made anything Lillian Montevechi's ever done, look nuanced. Bonnie looked fantastic, but Some People wasnt a great fit. Loved Nadim Naaman on Finishing The Hat, Danielle Fiyamanya, Michael Xavier and Laura Tebutt amongst others.
