Much as I enjoyed Rylance's performance, I can't help feel that the passing years will make it difficult for him to be as full on as he was originally. It was such a physically engaged performance - but it will be 12 years since he first played the role and time is never kind.
I am sure he will still do an incredible job - but I do hope he paces himself.

Good choice to get people back in to the theatre. There has always been a buzz about this play and his performance.

Seems a bit odd, you don’t get actors revisiting their greatest hits much these days, although a century ago it used to happen. When they revived The Mysteries in 2000 Jack Shepherd said it felt like they were old retired footballers playing in one of those “masters” tournaments.

Seems a bit odd, you don’t get actors revisiting their greatest hits much these days, although a century ago it used to happen. It seems risky for all concerned to revisit something so revered. I'd almost be reluctant to see it again, as it was so perfect first time around. |

I'm looking forward to this. I saw it in its last encarnation in the West End and wasn't particularly taken by it, however it flew off the page for me when I read the script previously in a way that seldom happens.
In fairness I did see it from the balcony last time, at least that won't be a possibility these days...

I wouldn't read the script before seeing the performance. Just let it happen for you in the theatre.
The original performances were so memorable that I can only hope that the intervening years will not have dimmed the energy at the heart of the piece.
I think I will just let it love on in my memory rather than risking seeing something that does not capture the original. It might be a deeper, richer interpretation. But I shall just continue to cherish the original (and try to find someone I can direct as Rooster...)

My excitement for this is through the roof. Never saw the original, but adore the script, and have been desperate to see it for years, and the fact that Rylance, Crook and the majority of the original creative team are back...man, this is going to be special!
