Memory is not a black mama Effie White belty screamer - if far more reflective, sad, subtle with a great emotional crescendo as she is desperate for a new life. Just screaming it with pauses like Dreamgirls won’t and doesn’t work. Maybe it’s worth waiting to see the staging and set up though I’m not convinced.

We can't be that far off a trailer surely? If it opens in December, usually you get at least a teaser a year in advance.

Stunning! I mean, just wow. Sold. Yes it’s self-indulgent at the end, but all the ingredients are there. I’m sure it will come across beautifully on film. I’m more concerned about that appalling piano playing. Don’t even know what time signature they were in at the beginning. And Lloyd Webber very specifically chooses a bar of 10/8 on “if you touch me, you’ll understand what happiness is” and it’s always performed which such rubato, he may as well have not bothered. |

I think J Hud sounds amazing from that clip although I’d personally prefer someone as Grizabella with a more pure sounding powerful voice than her, if that makes sense. Then again I’ve never been a Cats fan so I shouldn’t really even be giving my opinion! I’m sure she’ll smash it in the film, but please dear god please don’t let her get anywhere near an Oscars supporting actress nom for belting one song! 😆 I can see it happening .....

I'm so conflicted by whether this is amazing or terrible- the gossip I've heard is crazy/ horrible/ baffling/ incredible.

Sing what? Memory wasn't written in final form when she was in it, and she coped with "Cabaret" just fine, as the LP record (no auto-tune then) attests. Yeah Judi heard the first draft of it and suddenly got leg ache 🙂. (Sally Bowles isn’t supposed to be able to sing) |
