My most anticipated Shakespeare production of the year, Pennington and Littler could be a mesmerising combination.

My most anticipated Shakespeare production of the year, Pennington and Littler could be a mesmerising combination. That is about the normal length and why often it is played without an interval. As I said somewhere else, the doubling of Ferdinand and Caliban - the two "suitors" of Miranda - is unique in my experience and potentially interesting - let's see. |

Jermyn Street say that their intention when they finally do re-open is to continue with The Tempest which had only just opened when they closed. It would be good if they could.

Lets hope so. I saw it during its second preview and it was already a fine looking production with more than enough laughs in some scenes. Its a real treat to see Michael Pennington in such an intimate space. It turned out to be the last show I saw in London before the theatre closures and I bumped into Tom Littler outside the loos...

In fact they are intending to stage the next few productions that were planned rather than starting with a complete new set of productions - so I may get to see Relatively Speaking which is another one I was interested in.

I would be happy with this, a cracking programme. I suppose some of the actors don’t have plans too far ahead so could do this. And the sets, proggies etc already and waiting? |

The last show I saw pre-lockdown#1 and can say this is a production worth catching. It's certainly not the best show in the world but it utilizes the Jermyn St stage nicely and is sprinkled with wonderful performances from the cast. Hope the upcoming run does well.

Now on sale, together with Oliver Ford Davies in the Graham Greene/ Kim Philby drama "A Splinter of Ice" and Sian Phillips in two rare Beckett pieces "Footfalls" and "Rockaby."
Great little season, quality pretty much guaranteed

I enjoyed this a lot. It worked really well in a tiny theatre - somehow the magic seemed more real and charming on a small scale with minimal effects and props. I was a bit disconcerted at first by Michael Pennington reading, I assume because of memory issues. But it did fit really well with the text and Prospero's control freakery, and of course it was an absolute treat to hear him speaking the verse. Good performances all round.
