It needs a better Elphaba. The current Glinda is perfect in my opinion. But there will be a cast change before the 10th anniversary anyway. I'm hoping for Rachel Tucker to return for a limited run as Elphaba. Oh I hope not. I'm seeing the show in February. You hope Rachel doesn't come back or you hope it's not for a limited time? |

It won't happen. The 10th release on Broadway was the OBC with a few extras stuck on a second CD. There's next to no chance London will get one for its 10th. The next likely Wicked recording to be released will be the film, whenever that gets sorted. I'm surprised no one has pointed out there originally was a London recording planned (I can't remember if it was to be with Idina or Kerry, but certainly was OLC otherwise), but it failed due to the producers wanting to use the Broadway orchestra recording with London actors singing, rather than the London orchestra. Why would this cause it to fail? There was a dispute with unions involved regarding it. In the end the producers backed down and decided not to bother. |

Apparently they sent a note out saying all recordings made by fans at the 10th will be destroyed. Could this mean they're doing a live recording?

I honestly wouldn't look too far into that. They just don't want people recording the show as its against copyright. I guess by flagging it so clearly, they're also trying to remind people who would be tempted to photograph/film any of it, not to.

Mostly, it's fairly obvious and even I notice when my seat neighbours record the show, as they just keep their smartphone on their lap, on top of their handbag or backpack or put it in their shirt pocket. |

If someone next to you is recording be sure to cough loudly and frequently, shuffle around in your seat a lot, and occasionally quack.

Goodness I hope not. I love Wicked and saw it twice on Broadway. Sensational show. However the changes to the UK accents just don't make the piece work in London - it's like having Grease set in Hull. Like the Golden Girls being reproduced to the Brighton Belles (anyone remember that one?)
I saw Wicked on the West End a month ago and the staging and singing were great. The audience sniggered once or twice, on Broadway people were hysterical.
Even Kerry Ellis and others don't really know if to sing Wizard and I in an American accent or not. The vowels, phrasing and clueless style American college comedy was written for America.
The OBC is the ultimate. Especially when it comes to Glinda/Kristin.

I got to know the British production before I got to know the American, and now the American always seems weird to me. Remember that shows like Grease are actually set in America. Wicked is not set in America, it's set in Oz. And the OBC is far from the ultimate for me. I actually prefer some bootleg recordings to the OBC. On the OBC, the orchestra also sounds pretty cheap on some tracks for some reason. But without a doubt the biggest problem with the OBC is Idina's singing. It's a matter of personal taste. Some people might like the OBC, but I think there are many people who would prefer a new (possibly, but not necessarily British) recording. |

Some sort of "Mis Compete Symphonic" type recording could be fun, featuring an "uber cast" of the best of the world's productions... Part of the fun will be the fan reactions to who gets to be recorded, of course. Could melt the internet, no water required. That could be fun. But I think that if we get a new one before the movie soundtrack, it will be a London live recording. |

The Kinky Boots New York recording is a clearer recording but the accents are a bit strange I'm not too familiar with the recordings of Kinky Boots, but for example the live recording of Miss Saigon is of amazing quality, so if they did it right it would be a great idea to make a live recording of Wicked. |

You only have to look at the We Will Rock You cast recording which was released in 2002 or the Mary Poppins Australian Live cast recording released a year after the LB one. Both are excellent. |

I've never heard any coughing, Reminds me of some show "live recording" they did, where one actor was supposed to enter in a wooden box. When he didn't stand up at the correct moment, they stopped the show, opened it, and found he had expired while waiting for his cue. The coroner decided that the box had been too small, and that the actor had died from a "bad fit of coffin." I'll get me coat... lol! This cracked me up xD |
