Brighton! I was having a little strop the other day that all the tours I want to see seem to go to Southampton but never Brighton - mostly because I want Six to announce Brighton but I'm also having to go to Southampton for Kinky Boots, Rock of Ages and Once. I'm glad at least this is coming here! |

Interesting, they're moving Adam Taylor to the tour, so presumably he'll be the Jamie alternate/understudy.
Most of the newly announced cast are new to the show, so that will change things up a bit. They've cut back a bit, I see Sandra Bollock and Jamie's dad will be played by the same actor.

Amy Ellen Richardson can do no wrong in my book, so very much looking forward to seeing her again.
I booked for opening night the first day tickets went on public sale, but then lost interest a little when Layton and Shane were announced. I'm now back onboard!

I won’t lie I booked because firstly I like the show, but also had secretly hoped that John McCrea would return! When they announced Layton and Shane I was very disappointed after not enjoying their portrayal in London ... but I’m thrilled we’ll see Shobna return! |

Shobna and George good additions to the tour I too wasn’t to enamoured by Shane and really really not keen on Layton
Saw Laura denning in Adrian mole she was fantastic strong voice and moves well too more tempted to book now

There’s a few cast I’m quite happy to see. Lara Denning has been great in everything I’ve seen her in such as Adrian Mole and I managed to see her when she was on as Miss Honey in Matilda.
John Paul Mccue might not mean much to most of you but if you know your British drag queens, his alter ego is Mary Mac who’s quite known on the scene.
Talia Palathamanan was a child in Matilda the same time that Lara Denning was in the cast so it will be full circle for them now to work together again as adult actors but for her to still be playing Lara’s pupil in a school.

Just noticed on Layton's Instagram he mentions he's doing the show eight times a week (along with holding workshops), so I presume there won't be scheduled alternate performances, unlike in the West End.

That’s a shame. When Layton first started in the West End he did all 8 shows but that has recently changed, wonder if the same could happen again later on the tour? I’m assuming that Adam Taylor will be a cover Jamie, after covering and playing the role in London? |

I just looked at my local theatre for tickets omg 😮!!!! £80 !!! Prices change different nights back of top circle £13 but most with any view are £45 -£81 + fees
The next nearest theatre top price is £48 ish with some good seats £33-39
Varies so much never paid anymore than £37 in west end box office staff are so nice there

Which is one of the reasons I've gone Weegie for this. £21 (ticket plus ATG fees) for the Upper Circle. Coupled with what I consider to be excessive prices for Six as well and the Kings taking the back three rows of the stalls off sale for most shows this year (the cheap seats!) it seems theatre going is getting more expensive at Capital Theatres. |

I'm not sure many 'true' fans will be outpriced, as they will have bought their tickets when they were still £15. |

I hate dynamic pricing with my work in nhs can’t always book too far ahead but you may be right Mind you Birmingham is in March and have lots of seats left and they are mainly £45-70 only cheaper seats are back of balcony about 10seats £13 even up there most are £30 + At least Wolverhampton are more reasonable £45 with many between 20-39 touring shows in general are getting £££ I saw Jamie last night of the original run for £20 and west end 5 times and lovely box office are always helpful Hope it’s a success as love the show but tickets are too high 🤔😊 |

Well, opening night began with a round of applause, before a single word had been spoken, and ended, predictably, with an instant standing ovation. 1,068 selfish people! 😉
Amy Ellen Richardson was the star of the Crucible's Kiss Me, Kate! and, for my money, she's the real star of this too, with 'He's My Boy' deservedly receiving the loudest applause of the night. Imagine singing such a moving song for the first time on home turf?
I expected to really dislike Shane Richie, but I was very pleasantly surprised, much as I was with CHF in Les Miserables. Clearly, I need to take a long hard, look at my preconceptions! He's not the best MT singer, but he can certainly act the part, and has bags of charm.
Much as I'd like to gloss over Layton Williams, in a review of Jamie I suppose I must, briefly, mention him. John McCrae always struck me as a modest, thoughtful actor, almost shy. None of those adjectives apply to Layton Williams.
Although they never really managed it, the OG did at least attempt a Sheffield accent. Apart from the occasional 'nowt' or 'mek up', this lot don't even try!
Very smooth for the first public performance, bar a few sound issues. At one point I had a man in black standing next to me with a laptop, and when I went for a wander during the interval, there was a small conference taking place. I wonder what the collective noun is for tech people?
Slightly longer than the advertised running time, but that does seem to be the norm at Sheffield Theatres. Act I was 1 hour 25 minutes, which is a long time to be sitting in the cheap seats at the Lyceum, a 20 minute interval, and 1 hour 10 minutes for Act II. Ended at 10.40pm.
I just happened to pass the stage door on my way home. Sheffield has never seen anything like it!!!

I think a new Sheffield high has been reached. For tonight's performance, there is a single seat in the stalls available for £70, or 'only' £67.50 for concessions!
