That makes me think they might have filmed Loud and then decided to cut it out later rather than it being the plan from the start to not use it. Just out of a screening and we had a live q and a with cast and writers etc afters and yes there is a much longer cut which included Loud...

I am now really excited to see the film now although I saw a bit in the trailer which I'm curious about: I'm assuming Matilda's manifestation to scare off Miss Trunchbull is expanded from simply writing on a chalkboard telepathically

I genuinely forget Matilda involves Telekinesis every time I see it.

I genuinely forget Matilda involves Telekinesis every time I see it. Or how in the musical she has the ability to tell a story that conveniently happened in real life. As if she can read people's minds and learn their backstory without knowing whose it is. And by the way does the film try to improve on that contrived plot twist?

I get so, so bored with the acrobat and the escapologist. It just goes on, and on...

I get so, so bored with the acrobat and the escapologist. It just goes on, and on... It feels like the entire second half of the film is about that. I didn’t even remember it from seeing the show but then again I remember nothing from the show except the chocolate cake scene and lots of shrill singing.

For those who've seen it: are the songs sung live or pre-recorded? What's your impression?

Pre recorded - I don't think live would have worked that well given the way some of the numbers are shot

Matthew Warchus said in the q & a that it was live singing..Also said there was 19 weeks of dance rehearsals which is unheard of for a film...

Is it me, or has this more or less sunk without a trace? Most of my friends are into musicals, and not one person seems to have seen it, even those with kids.
Also, that version of Revolting Children is not great. So shrill, I don't recall it being quite that shrill.

Seriously? Seems like they've been promoting it for a while for something that's not out. I could have sworn our local cinema had tickets for it a couple of weeks ago. But then, I didn't pay too much attention as I'll probably leave it until it comes out free on something, maybe it was a rerelease of the DeVito one.

Some cinemas had exclusive screenings to go alongside its premiere at the London Film Festival, that’s what you would have seen listed.

How disappointing that Loud isn't even on the cast recording...

How disappointing that Loud isn't even on the cast recording... I wonder if they’ll do an extended album with credits songs or instrumentals, or release it separately, like they did with one of the Tick Tick Boom songs.

Actually they’ve got a lot of instrumentals on this recording as I’m listening, so it’ll probably be in a separate release if they ever release it! I really hope they do! Would be nice to see what they filmed as well.

I really like the new finale song, I'm interested to see how they stage it. Feels more suited to a movie than the When I Grow Up reprise as much as I love that song.

I have a question regarding the film: How does the final showdown between Matilda and Miss Trunchbull play out? I know in the book and the 1996 film, it's just Matilda using chalk and pretending to be Magnus which scares off Miss Trunchbull but it seems they've expanded it with the chain monster which I assume is meant to be Magnus as conjured up by Matilda's telekineses

It would involve restructuring how the end of the show works, so I think it's best they leave it as is
