Anyone got a copy of the Music for Pleasure 1972 LP recording? Who was on the cast list for that one? Had one in my childhood which I loved but not available now. I've got TWO copies. No cast list I'm afraid. And I looked on Discogs with no luck. I'll have to give them a spin. |

I’ve seen it twice.
The first time had Davy Jones from the Monkees and I remember him not signing autographs at the stage door and just walking off.
The second time initially had some Australian soap actor as Jesus but he’d left and his understudy George Alex Livings took over and he was excellent.

were on the ed sullivan show ..... ? was Davy and the Oliver cast even
on the same show with the beatles ?

JCS and Godspell are contemporaries. Well, near enough. They can't be compared because they're so different. JCS is a liberal adaptation of the last seven days in Jesus' life. The dramatic content is 'enhanced' for entertainment purposes. Godspell, on the other hand, is based on scripture and other selected writings. The film probably captures what the original production was like. The 2002 UK tour was based on an American tour from the previous year... www.amazon.co.uk/Godspell-2001-Revival-Cast-Album/dp/B001N7K5WCThis was adapted for UK audiences - topical references were added. This production had its drama too. In the second act 'Jesus' was tied to a frame that was raised. Lit from behind, it hung there in absolute silence. There were young children in the audience, but there wasn't a peep out of them. It was spine tingling! For whatever reason, that tour only lasted about six months. It deserved longer. One final anecdote... Jonathan Wilkes remained onstage during the interval, knocking a football about and chatting with members of the audience. I enjoyed that production - very much. |

Godspell is one of my favourite musicals. I've seen it 16 times.
In the 1980s I was on a train from Leicester to Birmingham and was sat in a carriage with a rather loud American talking to some people at the other end of the carriage. I couldn't help but hear what he was saying. When they started talking about musicals, my ears pricked. For some reason I got the impression that the man was connected to Godspell so I stood up and craned my neck to see. It was indeed John-Michael Tebelak.
He also got off at Birmingham so - not prepared to miss the opportunity of a lifetime - I dashed up to him. "Are you John-Michael Tebelak?" Well, the guy was so shocked to be recognised, especially in Birmingham! We talked about how much I loved Godspell; "Me too" he said! Then he said how he was in Brum to see his friends The Krankies!!!
The lovely guy then gave me his business card, which I still have.
God bless him; he died too young.

Couldn’t quite get a handle on how this will be done as it says a link will be provided at 10am on the day of your ticket and will last 24hrs. I assume there will be one recorded performance with daily links in that case? Does anyone know anything about whether they will all be doing their bits from home?

I thought at first this was a live streamed event from Hope Mill.
Think now must be put together over time thing with performances zoomed in?
Still, the quality of these things can be pretty high (that recent The Show Must Go On (Queen cover) was brilliant).
Expect I’ll give it a go!

Daren Day's face on salalite type dish thing attached to the Hive sculpture at Kew Gardens, I could of done without that but really enjoyed the rest as its well sung. Beautiful City was astounding and made me cry.
Schwartz gives a it a great introduction at the start.
Bless the Lord my soul had a lovley nod to something else...
And why have I only just discovered the yummy Danyl Johnson?

I really enjoyed this, even Darren Day with his slightly pointy nipples. Great performances filmed in a variety of settings. Sam Tutty looking fresh faced with a very big microphone, Ruthie Henshall in a bubble bath, Alison Jiear dancing barefoot down the aisle of a church, Ria Jones, blink and you'd miss her, Danyl Johnson looking gorgeous in skinny jeans.
High production values and beautifully directed. I recommend as was happy to have donated £15 to Hope Mill to have had the opportunity of seeing this. For me it worked better than a fully staged theatre version.

they have just added 2 more days to view, can i ask anyone who has watched how it is streamed? ive had a few problems with some online streaming services and dont want to purchase if i can't watch
