Mildly off topic, does anyone have the Southwark playhouse pay as you go subscription? If so, is there a way to use it to book online? I haven’t had it for a few years now, but if it still works the same as it used to, you select a seat and just go through the process until it asks you to log in to your account. After you’ve logged in, it allows you to apply the subscription to the ticket. I hope that makes sense. |

Yes, as sophie92 says, select 1 or 2 full price tickets, then when you go through the booking process it should automatically apply your PAYG subscription as you go through the booking process, and if not there's an option "Apply membership discount". Also going to try that Italian market place after the matinee to eat. Anyone tried it before? Yes, used it a few times before or after shows at Southwark. Fun place, nice selection of food & drink. |

I would say that from any seat you’ll probably miss something, but that’s always the way when a show is staged more or less in the round. There aren’t any locations I’d avoid. |

I'm going to try and rebook but it's only on until the 28th so fitting in a day that I'm available and that still has seats left might prove to be difficult. Shame to miss it as it will be my fist time seeing the musical.

My top tip in this layout is either the front row, or the aisle seats in the middle, on any of the blocks - as the rows get wider as they go up, the last couple of seats in each row has nothing in front of them. Both today's performances cancelled due to "recurring cast illness" |

How do the leading ladies in Southwark Playhouse musicals always manage to get sick when I plan to see the show? Oh well, the replacement in Preludes was fantastic last time this happened (and she hadn't even had much time to prepare at all) so I'm sure it'll be the case again (and honestly from the clips I wasn't a huge fan of Molly Lynch, though I'm sure she would have been better in person).

Thought this was really good, incredible vocals from both members of the cast and so impressive how well Lydia White managed having only rehearsed and performed it for a few days (she did have a script for a few moments throughout but it was never distracting or really took away from her performance). I'm glad I was finally able to see the missing pieces of this show in such a strong production!

I really enjoyed the last Jason Robert Brown musical I saw - The Bridges of Maddison County at MCF, of which a number were highly critical - but I didn't enjoy this.
It's not really a musical, more a song-cycle, which is fine but for the fact that I found it musically over-wrought, with little melodic distinction or variety. I found the composer's tendency to over-emote at virtually every opportunity extremely enervating. Also I can't share the love for the performers. I don't think either were on top of the extremely rangey material (I realise Lydia White was a last minute replacement but her voice wasn't great.)
Also, what was the point of the actor/musician presentation since their piano contributions were perfunctory, mainly consisting of a few sub-Rachmaninov motifs? Still the Yamaha grand did look handsome and filled the stage effectively so that any more inventive staging decisions were unnecessary.

Interesting to read the arrangements of how there'll be two rows of socially distanced seating on three sides of the stage, with perspex screens placed between each different booking. There will also be a one-way system in place within the auditorium and audience members will be free to leave and re-enter the theatre if they need to use the toilet during the show.
Good on the Southwark Playhouse for giving it a go!
