The Almeida would never have done this show in a million years 18 months ago, but have being forced to because of circumstances Not sure that's the case given that it was mentioned in this thread back in 2019 that it was coming to the Almeida in summer 2020... Agree with you that it's a very un-Almeida show though, unless they're going to radically change the production. I did see it in Hammersmith but didn't love it, would be interesting to see in a very different context... Whoops.🦧🦧🦧 Didn’t you see Rupert Goold whe; he did a press conference for The Doctor last year, that he was going to do Spring Awakening as the Almeida needs to do a revival, as Robert Icke David Icke informed him that a terrible plaque was coming, that was going to take out theatre for the foreseeable future. |

And ultimately age isn't really the factor, it's whether you look your age or not. Kynaston looks far more believably like a teenager. |

The website, which previously stated tickets were going on sale this month, now says the release is TBD. I hope the plan is still to open this in two months’ time, it seems late in the day for tickets to be selling, but then again I’ve not booked for the Almeida before so that could well be common practice?

They can afford to open booking very late as it’s a small theatre and guaranteed to sell out anyway

What on earth has happened with this? I saw Macbeth has been pushed back slightly so I'm guessing this has been potentially too? Still, not to have more announcements about this seems a bit odd. I would expect tickets to go on sale soon as well so I'm surprised not to have heard anything yet.

Went for F18/19 in the stalls. Seatplan seems to suggest they're ok for restricted view seats - won't complain for a tenner.

I think they are great seats and are my go-to for cheap seats at the Almeida. There is a supporting pole but it's pretty thin and the space around it is enough to lean on the rare occasions it's necessary.

I was at the first preview yesterday and it went really well. I'm not a big fan of the musical and the production didn't make me a convert, but it's staged intelligently and performed beautifully. I think the Almeida has a hit in its hands.
The staging is simple but very effective. They try to play it straight without any pause for applause, but the audience had none of it (and not without reason). It's all very aesthetically pleasing: the cast is very good looking and the costumes have a very glamorous approach to period looks. The fact that the boys don't wear the same uniform is slightly puzzling and somewhat undermines the ongoing theme of repression, but they're all so glamorous that I'd forgive them anything.
It's well sung (more by the ladies than the boys), and it felt more an ensemble piece than I remembered it to be. The orchestrations are beautiful, and I loved the strings. Laurie Kynaston, Amara Okereke and Stuart Thompson are excellent in the leading roles and their sensitive performances are moving and engaging. But the whole cast is spot on and there are some great vocals from Bella MaClean's Martha and Carly-Sophia Davies' Isle. Nathan Armarkwei-Laryea is a very carismatic Hanschen.
