The set designer isn't known for lavish sets which is what concerns me a bit She has a Tony for war horse. Which was fab . But someone else would be great. Where is Bob Cowley when you need him?

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, she is very talented and has done great work. But her minimal style just doesn't seem an obvious fit for Hello Dolly.

What are the chances of this getting a cast recording? Is Imelda an early frontrunner for the 2025 Best (Musical) Actress Olivier?

I think its going to be huge. Big cast, big orchestra and, I expect, lavish costumes and sets. Also a new opening number. A new opening number. Eh?

Is it a new opening number or is it something like replacing "I put my hand in there" with the Ethel Merman version?

They’re using the opening number from the film Just Leave Everything to Me.

I thought people earlier in the thread said it would be the number from the film, Just Leave Everything to Me.

All I know is that the director said at the press launch yesterday that the show will have a new opening number and that someone asked Imelda if she was playing Dolly Parton in the show!!!

With regards to the set design, I noticed that Finn Ross is working on this. He created the video elements for Frozen and Back to the Future and many other shows.

Thanks for clarifying the "new opening". I initially thought of seance and a medium transcribing onto staff paper...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they also adding "Love, Look in My Window" back into the show for Imelda?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they also adding "Love, Look in My Window" back into the show for Imelda? Reports when the show was first announced were that Staunton had personally met with Jerry Herman to discuss specific numbers and that both songs were subsequently being added into the show for London, along with “Penny in my Pocket”. deadline.com/2023/11/imelda-staunton-hello-dolly-london-palladium-1235589063/“Just Leave Everything to Me” is arguably a better number, especially for newcomers to the show and I look forward to seeing it live, but “I Put My Hand In” is iconic so personally I will also miss it.
