To be honest transfers dont bother me too much as Chichester is more local, it's just that chichester itself used to be a hallmark for quality, especially revivals. Now the shows aren't bad (mostly) by any stretch, but they are no longer must sees. It's gone from being an annual moment of excitement to see what they were doing as you knew it would be great, then actually going to see several shows, to, meh might catch it but usually don't end up going.
Didnt Barnum eventually transfer in from the tour?
Funnily enough for me the best musical they did in the main house, The Music Man, never transferred

The Music Man, which I agree was excellent, was all set to transfer immediately, they even had a theatre lined up, and then for some reason it never happened.

I mean they aren't awful but something is definitely missing for me now. The worst case being Me and My Girl which should have been a home run for Chichester but was the worst show I've seen there. Not helped by a hopelessly miscast leading man. Couldn’t agree more. That was one huge misfire. |

Didnt Barnum eventually transfer in from the tour? No, it never came into the West End. The Menier did the original Broadway version - totally different production - but that was all. I think it was mooted for the Gielgud but then it never materialised. |

I don’t know if it’s due for summer, I was told 2020 so I assume summer.

As long as the 2020 season avoids Shakespeare and Sondheim, I'm happy to wait and see what it does offer, rather than having a wish-list.

Sounds like literally the last thing we need I dont know, it depends how its handled and what story it's going to tell. The world really needs to regain balance and be able to sensibly debate things instead of everything being black or white and you're one side or the other. metoo highlighted awful acts and vile people that will hopefully finally be punished. But the pearl clutching outrage at what everyone has known went on for as long as the entertainment industry has excisted. The 'casting couch' is a joke as old as time. You also have the people whose careers were made by people like Weinstein who then didnt know how to respond and acted like they didnt know. Plus there are people who voluntarily offer sexual favours for career progression in all manor of industries. It wont be easy to do, but it's a subject with depth and different angles. |

There has been an advert on the ‘onedance’ website for a 17 year old of Asian Pacific heritage for a significant role at Chichester. The dates exactly match the big summer musical show. Although it doesn’t name South Pacific, the role is an exact match for one of the key parts in the show.

Why they would feel the need to constantly choose from such a limited repertoire for the sake of not appearing too ‘populist’ is beyond me. Surely the risk they took on ‘Half A Sixpence’ has proven that theres an appetite for forgotten gems as-well as bleedin’ Sondheim and R&H. I know that it was Camerons risk, but still its’ successful transfer still gives hope to those wanting to see something different staged.

So can someone confirm the big house musical will be South Pacific?
Great show but very uninspired choice especially after safety net if Oklahoma.
Why can’t they just do a full blown revival of gentleman prefer blondes, Gigi, or victor/Victoria (don’t ask why I like all Parisian musicals 😂)
Really hoping it’s South Pacific but I don’t think they should have a sondheim. Much as I love him to overcooked.
Anymore confirmations, rumours?

As this year is Sondheim's 90th birthday, a Sondheim is a good bet all over the country. There are already a couple of West Side Storys announced as well as Sunday in the Park with Jake and a major production of Into the Woods mooted later this year. |

The announcement is next Thursday, apart from South Pacific, does nobody know any rumours? Unusually nothing from Baz this morning, though of course he is on one of his jollies.
