Not surprising but still very sad. It was an unexpected source of great joy for me during a difficult Autumn.

So sad! Truly a wonderful show. I hope it finds the success it deserves eventually!!

I'm glad I book a trip to London for the end of January. I hope it's a fantastic night out and will come to New York at some time so I don't have to make such a long trip for my passion.

Gutted for all involved but sadly I think this was pretty much inevitable in the current climate. I guess a show relying on word of mouth was always going to struggle to survive at a time when theatres have rarely faced more challenging circumstances in which to attract audiences through their doors.
Glad there will at least be a tour to look forward to, where the show will hopefully attract the packed houses it deserves.
I wonder what's next for the Criterion. Sadly it's hard not to suspect that the overriding priority in programming venues for the foreseeable future will be to play it very, very safe.

I tend to see pretty much every new play and musical in the West End but this one just didn’t appeal (probably because I’ve never seen/been interested in Pride & Prejudice). Always going to be a tough sell for an extended run.

Pre pandemic this would of sold really well to tourists.
I'm not an Austin fan and I thought the joke wore think after 5 minutes so unfortunately it wasn't for me.

Always going to be a tough sell for an extended run. It didn't appeal to me either, to the point that even when good value tickets came up I was still unsure. Even the name of the show was putting me off. However I am so glad I went, it was one of the most joyful things I saw last year.

With edi on this, wavered but finally succumbed and loved it, seriously considering seeing it again before it closes. Not my usual fare but the fun on stage is infectious, left the Theatre with the largest smile on my face for a long time.

I think I'm one of the very few here who didn't really enjoy this!

Found myself here this evening and found it very enjoyable. There were plenty of genuine laughs and the cast explode with energy. A lot of Jane Austen adaptations capture the glamour and the period well but Isobel McArthur has really captured the wit and humour of Ms Austen better than most. For once, Jane Austen feels so approachable and it's so refreshing to see a show which honours the novel in such an original way. It's a pity to see the show closing early next month so definitely would urge people to see it.

That was just what I needed to push me to revisit, an evening of jollity in the last week of the run duly booked.

Saw this at the weekend and enjoyed it, up to a point. It was fun, but it could have been a bit shorter and, after the mostly positive reviews, I was expecting it to have more cleverness and theatrical wit. There was a notice up listing 2 understudies, but I think there were 3 understudies at the performance I saw... although it was impossible to tell because the character names they used to list the understudies in the foyer (Flo, Effie etc) are never used in the show, which didn't help with identification. (That said, you could definitely tell which of them were understudies... and I did wonder if I'd have liked it more with the full complement of original cast, including its writer who wasn't performing at the show I attended.)
On a positive note, Jane Austen's story is told well, and with a lot of clarity, and I have to report that the audience (which was I'd say 80% female) seemed to have a thoroughly good time, and reacted positively and enthusiastically.

I believe Flo is Mrs Bennet and Mr Darcy? Effie is Lizzie Bennet. Tillie's name is used in the show - also plays the Bingleys and Charlotte Lucas. Clara is Jane Bennet, Wickham and Lady Catherine. And there's one more whose name I admittedly cannot remember right now :') The one who plays Lydia and Mary, Mr Collins and Mrs Gardiner. I've never been sad to see the understudies in this. Annabel's Lizzie is absolutely fantastic!

I saw the show on Sunday and knew an understudy was on but not who was off as the programme doesn't list any names, neither servant names or the characters they play! I'm not sure why they didn't list who plays who really. If they didn't want spoilers they could have at least included the servant names then had the character names in small print in the back of the programme or something. I really enjoyed the show. I wasn't familiar with the source and others in the audience certainly got some punchlines before I did. I felt the conceit of the show (that the servants are ignored) didn't really go anywhere.

I believe Meghan has been off lately? So you possibly had understudy Lizzie. If she had short brown hair and wasn't Irish, that's Annabel.

I believe Meghan has been off lately? Meghan is off until the end of the run and Annabel is playing (and has been playing for a bit) Lizzie Bennett until the show closes.

Good point re programme and names/characters: In case it is considered a spoiler: spoiler {Spoiler - click to view} Isobel McArthur - Flo/Mr Darcy/Mrs Bennet Hannah Jarrett-Scott - Tillie/Caroline Bingley/Charles Bingley/Charlotte Lucas Christina Gordon - Clara/Jane Bennet/George Wickham Tori Burgess - Anne/Mary Bennet/Lydia Bennet/Mrs Gardiner/Mr Collins Meghan Tyler - Effie/Lizzie Bennet
There's been the following iterations of understudies: Leah Jamieson - Clara/Jane/Wickham & Effie/Lizzie Annabel Baldwin - Tillie/Bingleys/Charlotte & Flo/Darcy/Mrs B & Effie/Lizzie Lucy Gray - Tillie/Bingleys/Charlotte & Flo/Darcy/Mrs B

Why is Christina's servant called Maisie when she's referred to as Clara in the show?

that's a good point - sorry, I got myself confused with the previous touring version of the show which had an additional servant called Maisie. You're right, Clara is the correct name - I'll amend!

We had a fab time at this today. I didn’t know there was going to be music in it so that was a delightful surprise!
Can anyone recall the names of all the songs in it? Me and Mum both forgot the name of the first Bingley-Jane song and it’s driving us barmy now….
