Risk-taking storytellers Kneehigh return to their roots, exploding Alfred Jarry's weirdly prescient masterpiece, Ubu Roi. The 1896 play, a surreal satire of Hamlet and Macbeth, is widely considered to have opened the door to modernism and the theatre of the absurd.

Kneehigh's Ubu is a wildly entertaining, rough-and-ready promenade musical. Expect a thrillingly unique theatrical experience led by a skilled team of theatrical stalwarts at their anarchic best.

With a belting Kneehigh band playing a cracking catalogue of classic tunes, all that’s missing is that magical ingredient – you! Come together, howl in protest and sing in hope for a better future.

During this performance, you will be up on your feet and free to wander, leave your phones on, go to the bar and sing as loud as you can with the rest of the audience.

A limited number of seats will be available for those with access needs or who otherwise need to sit at some point during the performance.

Their website doesn’t seem to be working but this is definitely playing the Lowry and Leeds Playhouse un Jan/ Feb. Don’t know about any further dates.

In the Quarry auditorium, which seems an odd location for a promenade performance. It's so steep the ushers won't even let you stand in the aisles during the interval, let alone dance in them!
