Nottingham Playhouse announces its new season tonight. This is part of the teaser email they've sent out:
Unless Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice are getting back together, who could it be? Stiles and Drewe, maybe?
What I do know is Nottingham Playhouse has just appointed its first ever producer, so I assume they'll be hoping it has a commercial life beyond the East Midlands.
Whatever it is, and whoever it's by, I suppose we'll find out tonight, from about 7.30pm!

It's called "Martin Gruyere"- a cheesy new musical from Blubrie and Schomembert.
(No genuine ideas about what it might be, sorry!)

I saw this the other day, and was going to post about it. I am presuming Stiles and Drewe - what other celebrated writing teams are there that aren’t Rice and Webber?

I wonder if it's their (Stiles & Drewe) latest musical "Becoming Nancy"? It premieres in Atlanta this month, but as it's set in London I imagine they have their eye on a UK premiere somewhere?

I doubt it would be that. I imagine the trajectory they want for that piece is the out of town tryout in America, with the eventual aim of going to Broadway, and then if successful, London. Plus, Jerry Mitchell is involved. I think it is very much a passion project of his, so I would imagine any production we get would be his.
Saying that, I don’t know what other stuff if anything they have been working. I know George has had recent health problems, so that has probably affected any work they have done.
So probably not Stiles and Drewe, but what other writing teams are there?

It doesn't say that the songwriting team is from the UK - just that the director is - so perhaps it's a wider pool that it seems at first (and the phrase songwriting team is unusual too)

Co-produced by the venue and Kenny Wax (The Play That Goes Wrong, Six), the show is based on Erich Kastner's book Lottie and Lisa (which was adapted into the Disney film The Parent Trap). It has music and lyrics by iconic duo Stiles and Drewe, with a book by Stuart Paterson. Running until 22 August, the production is adapted by Trevor Nunn and has plans to transfer to the West End.

I didn't like what I heard of the music in Soho Cinders so I'm very tentatively interested in this but I'm in Nottingham so I'll probably go anyway.

There was a workshop for this show back in May.
I wonder if any of the workshop cast will be involved with this full production?

Well, for me as a Nottingham resident this is exciting. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Stiles and Drewe stuff recently (since the rumours of SOHO CINDERS at Charing Cross first started), and can’t wait to hear a new score from them. Count me in!

Really pleased we are about to get another new Stiles and Drewe score! Now if only we could finally get the Kristin Chenoweth led “Soapdish” too.

Much as I'm no fan of Stiles and Drewe I'm sufficiently intrigued by this one to leave leafy Surrey and catch it. I always enjoy visiting Nottingham Playhouse - in fact I can go back along way with the place as my uncle used to manage the restaurant in the 1960s and some of my very first theatrical experiences were there, including seeing Wilfred Bramble in Scrooge. I recall seeing him later in the restaurant bar completely p***ed.
