Co-produced by the venue and Kenny Wax (The Play That Goes Wrong, Six), the show is based on Erich Kastner's book Lottie and Lisa (which was adapted into the Disney film The Parent Trap). It has music and lyrics by iconic duo Stiles and Drewe, with a book by Stuart Paterson. Running until 22 August, the production is adapted by Trevor Nunn and has plans to transfer to the West End. This show is now on sale. Tried to book for an August matinee but my PC is advising me that the Nottingham Playhouse site is not secure and I should not enter any payment details. Box office closed so have left a message advising them of this. I always check the padlock icon when booking a show to confirm a secure connection. Probably a temporary glitch linked to the new year/decade. |

The pricing for this is unusual with a premium for the most central seats and a big drop moving just a little further out. I could pay £35 for C12, £24.50 for C14 or £19.50 for C18. Only the front stalls currently on sale. |

The ticket prices at Bath are a lot higher than Nottingham, eg £42.25 for front stalls. It is closer for me (from Kent) but not much in it I've been waiting for the Playhouse to fix the security issue I highlighted a few posts ago. I did phone them and was advised they were aware and dealing with it. and it's now been fixed. Just booked a Saturday matinee for £24.50 stalls front row. I like the tram network in Nottingham anyway and will get there early to ride them again ! |

Just booked a Saturday matinee for £24.50 stalls front row. There's a while to go yet, but it may be advisable to check nearer opening night that Row C remains the front row. I booked what I thought was the front row for One Night in Miami, only to find myself sitting several rows back! From the Bath website: |

I did, and wasn't wild about the lyric, if I'm honest - unless being deliberately kept in the style of the 1950s or something? I agree, however having now listened to it twice I do have the bit that goes "you're my sister, you're my sister" stuck in my head. I'm curious, is this going to be set in the 50s or modern day? The first photos of the girls sitting on Identical made me think modern but the new image makes me think maybe it's set in the past. I also don't like that the new poster says "based on the novel "The Parent Trap". As far as I know the book has never been called that, it's "Lottie and Lisa" and I've read it many times. The original title is "Das Doppelte Lotchen" which does not translate to Parent Trap either, it's The Double Lottie. |

I like musicals; I like what I've seen of Stiles and Drew's work and I'd love the opportunity to revisit Nottingham - where I haven't been for at least 20 years - and a venue new to me. However, I really don't enjoy the sound of children singing and found the clip dippy kindly posted frankly excruciating. Does anyone else share my dislike or am I coming across like a female Herod? |

I don't enjoy that song. It goes on a bit doesn't it. It seems a bit too challenging for the singers too and the lyrics are somewhat cringe. It reminded me in parts of Mary Poppins for some reason but all that songs in that are far better!
Not the best first impression for the show IMO

I'm totally the same. I didn't really enjoy Matilda and I think this is why because I've since gone away and listened to its cast recording and realised a lot of the genius of the lyrics and score but I still can't get over how children sound when they sing - breathy, no vibrato but also I just don't think the song is very good either, it's repetitive and annoying. |

I agree with you. For me the lowlight of every performance of Les Mis I've seen is Castle on a Cloud, as the little Cosettes always sound flat to my ears. I have never & will never see Matilda. I have no intention of seeing this musical either so I don't even know why I clicked on the thread! |

Was really looking forward to a new Stiles & Drewe show, although it's not unexpected with kids being involved. I'm still hopeful we'll see Becoming Nancy over here sometime soon, and also the rest of Soapdish (loved what I saw at MT Fest). |

The new dates are Tuesday 24 July to Sunday 14 August 2022. Existing ticket holders should have been contacted.
Interesting that here is a regional theatre also going down the Sunday route, not just this year, but next.
Sir Trevor has already started working on his speech for the first day of rehearsals. 🙂
