Second production for turbine theatre
The film and stage production originally moved Hornby's novel from London to USA, but this new production will take the story back to the British capital. The show runs from 21 October to 7 December.

Sounds like the answer to my question here is "yes" then, which is probably a good thing! A more positive view of it from this board ... High Fidelity. It has a nicely eclectic soundtrack, genuinely funny lyrics, does a great job of both satirising and celebrating pop music (the Bruce Springsteen parody Goodbye And Good Luck is particularly funny) and some moments of real pathos near the end. Also a mighty lead role and nice supporting roles thrown in, would love to see a fringe theatre like the Union or Southwark Playhouse put it on.

Great news. Love the book and the film. I'm a lifelong vinyl collector and had my own second hand record shop back in the 1980s so a must-see for me.
Doesn't seem to be on sale yet. There's a link from the What's On Stage web page but it doesn't link to dates and ticket prices.

Weirdly nothing about the show on the Turbine's own website yet!
Prices generally the same as for Torch Song, with the addition of bean bag seats for £22.50 at the front!

I always book the front row when available but I've never watched a show from a bean bag.
If anyone else has bean bag theatre experience (!) please tell me - is it like sitting on the floor and needing to constantly look up ?

Loved the book and film, now that my appreciation of musical Theatre has grown will likely go to see this and assuming the musical style will be pop/rock as in the subject matter.
It will also be interesting to see which side of £30 the tickets will be, I have seen offers for Torch Song which brings the pricing in line with what I consider comparable Theatres.

I didn't find them comfortable and hated having meetings in there. So, personally, much as I love front row, I won't be going for the bean bags.

Also, I remember they were quite easy to fall off if you were in a heated discussion (or lost your concentration for too long). Could be quite amusing in a theatre setting (or become an unintentional part of the Bad Behaviour thread).

That booking link refers to both bean bags and sofas, so perhaps row A is bean bags, and row B sofas?

Thinking back I seem to recall people sitting on bean bags at a show I saw at the Union Theatre a while ago. It was unreserved seating and I decided not for me. I'm going to book a sofa seat. Can combine the Sunday matinee on a couple of dates with an evening show already booked but I'll wait to buy direct from the theatre.

Very much depends on the beanbags. If they've got any sense, they'll be densely packed and inflexible like the ones for My Mum's A Tw*t at the Royal Court (which were just like sitting on a stool, perfectly acceptable with the short running time) and not the big loose nightmares from my childhood that wouldn't hold a shape if you paid it and made a constant rustling noise the entire time you were sat on them.

That booking link refers to both bean bags and sofas, so perhaps row A is bean bags, and row B sofas? Sitting on beanbags is probably OK, it's getting up again afterwards that's the problem. Anyway - row A is beanbags for £22.40, row B is sofas for £29.12, row E to H are £40.32 and everything else is £33.60. Possibly that includes a whatsons***e booking fee given that Torch Song is £33 including booking fee direct from the theatre, and the amount in pence is a bit weird. To me this is still way too pricey for this kind of venue compared to the Union, Southwark, Above the Stag, Finborough, etc.

High Fidelity HI HI Fedelllllllityyyyyyy! Oh... wrong song. Haha I know it’s all tied up in publishing rights etc, but why can’t we have a ‘Fame’ musical based on all of the ace songs from the first few series of ‘Fame’?

Very unusual in my experience for tickets to be on sale through an Agency without even a mention on the Theatre's website. I thought something might happen at midday but no.

It's very odd. They've not even mentioned it on their own twitter feed, other than announcing that whatsonstage will be announcing something!

Well spotted Steve That booking link refers to both bean bags and sofas, so perhaps row A is bean bags, and row B sofas? Sitting on beanbags is probably OK, it's getting up again afterwards that's the problem. Anyway - row A is beanbags for £22.40, row B is sofas for £29.12, row E to H are £40.32 and everything else is £33.60. Possibly that includes a whatsons***e booking fee given that Torch Song is £33 including booking fee direct from the theatre, and the amount in pence is a bit weird. So - prices without the WOS fee for doing nothing are £20 - row A beanbags £26 - row B sofa £30 - rows C, D and J back £36 - rows E to H plus a £1 booking fee per ticket Price for most seats heading in the right direction, anyway! Assuming a similar layout to Torch Song, I would avoid rows C and D as there's no rake, and go for row J back. Or possibly go for the sofas!
