It's at the Circle in the Square theatre which is a proper Broadway venue. Oh, right. Maybe the producer had photos then... Hopefully lightning strikes twice. Not the greatest choice of words, I fancy, Phantom of London . Just between me and you monkey, mums the word on this one and be wary of any prying bears, that maybe eavesdropping. I saw Evita again tonight and spoke to one of the managers there. They have been very fortunate with the weather and only had one rain off for Evita and two for the entire season. |

There will be a black Julie or Billy I’m pretty sure. They won’t cast it in the obvious way.. Rosalie etc... This is such a dull uninspired choice- they will need to majorly overhaul it to make it work for today’s audience. I saw the recent dreadful NYC production and it exposed all of the shows flaws. BITTER... REALISTIC... |

The 1990s National Theatre revival demonstrated how amazing the show can be. If the Park can repeat the feat, it'll be a smash. I doubt very much the Open Air will be able to match the epic scale of those Bob Crowley designs and that gorgeous orchestra from the Lyttleton. |

I'll be waiting for the reviews before I decide whether to see this. I was glad I didn't book in advance for either JCS or Evita after seeing the reviews & production pics for those & I'm decidedly apprehensive what might be done to Carousel.

Its a glorious show - dark, gritty and that beautiful score. I never saw the NT production but Jo Davies' Opera North production visited Dublin and was utterly sublime. Could be very special in the open air.

Whilst I personally can't imagine a better pairing than Kelli O'Hara and Nathan Gunn in the NY Phil production, come to think of it the entire cast of that show was pretty much perfect, still I am very much looking forward to this. I was gutted I had to miss the Cadogan concert. I'm intrigued as to what they will do with this piece in the park. Hoping for a big orchestra

There was a super production done at the Arcola by Morphic Graffiti about 4 or 5 years ago and they managed just fine in that small space and they set it around WW2 time |

Open Air Theatre. Could happen anyway. Priority booking opened yesterday, hasn't sold anything like as fast as "Evita" last year (nor has "101 Dalmatians"). Prices are not unreasonable either - centre front stalls block is now £65, sides £59, back section £59, £48, £37, £25. £5 off previews if booked by May. The "premium" priced seats used to be a small number in the centre of the stalls, Now it is the whole central block. Understandable as they are all good seats and the price jump is not at all severe. Quick and easy public booking today. Number 3 in a very brief queue. Lots of availability and was pleasantly surprised to find all seats at quite a generous low price of £25 for geriatrics like me at midweek matinees so was able to book some excellent central stall seats. |

Nice price but I wonder how restricted they are Please and ta I sat there for JCS and found that the rail was in my view but not a massive nuisance, and for the price it was definitely worth it. I'm 5'3" so definitely not tall enough to see over it. |

When do we reckon casting will be announced? I just saw Ben Lewis will be starting the tour of The Bodyguard in November so that rules him out of reprising Love Never Dies which is a pity seeing as Frank is practically a non-singing role and he has such a luscious voice, I was disappointed not to hear more of it in Company where Larry was practically non-singing too... Whats the chances of him getting Billy Bigelow do you reckon? The idea just popped in my head and I can already imagine a sublime Soliloquy

I keep thinking about who they'll get for this. I'd hoped that Hadley would get a proper production after the concert last year but he's in City of Angels.
Can't lie I really would like to see Rosalie Craig play Julie though. For Billy, the only person I could kind of think is Michael Xavier but I don't know... anyone have any other ideas?

I really wouldn't mind them following the example of the glorious NT production and casting young (aka book-specific) actors in this instead of a bunch of guys in their 40s.

I agree. Cast the main roles with actors in their mid-late 20s as in the original production - and in the Hytner production in both London and New York (and indeed the US tour which had a 23-year old Patrick Wilson as Billy Bigelow). One of the many problems with the recent Broadway production was that no matter how well they sang the four leads all read too old - certainly for the first two-thirds of the show which is when it really matters.
