Interesting. Considering the show takes place over one casting session, there's going to be a lot of filling going on to cover a whole season!

Backstories, flashbacks, I can see it working. And RM knows what he’s doing.

I would guess it'll be the story of the show's development, from the late-night taped sessions that set the ball rolling (and from which several of the show's characters and a lot of the script were drawn) through the workshop process to the Broadway opening and maybe beyond. There's plenty of material there to fill ten episodes of a TV series.

Great news. He's got so many projects on the go, he must never sleep!

Ooh this sounds great. I agree that I think they will use backstories of the performers to fill out the episodes. This can fill the “Smash” shaped hole in our lives 😊

Who am I any? Is that my resume. This is a picture of a person I don't know.
What should I try to be? What does he want from me? There so many people all around and here we go. I need this job. Oh, God I need this show.

Is this a story of how the musical was developed and made?
Or is it simply the musical spread over a longer time period with more filler?
Just curious as I think people here are talking at cross-purposes. The Variety new story suggests the latter to me.

My guess is that each episode will have an extensive flashback of one of the performers, based on the respective solo number they sing on the show.

I think this sounds a bit dreary; stretched over so long there could potentially be far too much introspective dialogue and not enough musical numbers to balance it all out. But I hope I'm wrong, I like the show.

What's very interesting about A Chorus Line is not just its making, but the attempt from the original cast to get percentage of the box office/claim ownership on the material since much of what happens on stage are their own stories. I'm sure we'll see a lot of backstage post-opening night drama in this.

Found this in a WoS article from November 20: www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/ryan-murphy-a-chorus-line-netflix-film_52828.html

Anyone heard anything about this? Is it even still happening? It definitely will be because Ryan Murphy's output for Netflix has been very successful this year though he's got a mountain of things he's planning to make with them. We've probably just got to wait until he's got the time.

Cheers! The description of what they’re doing with it is pretty much what our member sf predicted upthread 3 years ago!

He has a history of announcing things prematurely.
Season 2 of American Crime Story was to be about Hurricane Katrina and it’s aftermath, with a third season to follow about Gianni Versace. Then they swapped it so Versace was season 2, and announced a fourth about Lewinsky and the Clintons. Katrina was cast before being scrapped altogether. The Clinton one was also scrapped but then did eventually get made a few years later as season 3. There’s now supposed to be a fourth season about Studio 54.
Feud season 2 was supposed to star Matthew Goode and Rosamunde Pike as Charles and Diana but was never made. 5 years on and the second season is apparently going star Tom Hollander as Truman Capote instead.
From a quick look at google news he doesn’t seem to have mentioned it in over 2 years, and Netflix cancelled a lot of shows earlier this year. It doesn’t look good, but then everything being up in the air and a bit chaotic seems to be normal.
