Well here it is folks, as everyone suspected... 'The Boy Friend' Slightly long run for something that doesn't immediately jump out as a runaway success, 22nd november to 7th March, we'll see how that goes. Directed by Matthew White, no cast yet. Very excited for this. Also slightly annoyed, as my Cupcake membership expires on 3rd September and the tickets go on sale to Cupcake supporters on 4th September!

Its not a show that I know well at all, but if it has some potentially good casting I'm sure they'll pull it out of the bag!

Not a show I know much about aside from a few numbers (Won't you Charleston and the title song), but glad they have gone with a "classic" show. Sounds like something for a Strallen sister!

Evening shows are at 8pm start again, so I'll be opting for a Saturday matinee. They are also doing Sunday matinees again if that helps anyone.

I think it will do quite well with the right names. |

Please stuff it full of recent grads who are bright as buttons, but obviously use some fantastic known MT names for the older characters. This could be a really great production.

On the pricing table they have on the website tickets start at £39! Hopefully they might have the £25 restricted view tickets

Awww, one of the first musicals I ever came into contact with as an AmDram production at my local theatre. As a teenager, I sold programmes in a beautiful flapper dress! It's light and frothy but quite sweet. I believe it's meant to be a parody. With great costumes, styling and choreography, this can make an excellent feel good show.
The film version, however, was terrible.

Was in a production of this many eons ago...it was a creaky old thing even then,but nice to see this re-surfacing...will be interesting to see how this is directed.

It's a great little show and as mentioned previously, ripe for a Strallen in the lead. Bill Deamer will be in his element with the 20's choreography too. I last saw this in Regents Park many years ago. I'm looking forward to this one.

As my screen name attests, I would always prefer Valmouth out of Sandy Wilson’s shows but that’s a much tougher sell, so this will do fine.
Done properly it is a loving tribute (as per the original London run) but If they attempt to overplay the parody or camp it up (more like the Broadway version) then it will not work.
Can a contemporary cast get the light touch required? Hopefully.

I think it's in good hands with Matthew White who has a good reputation. I really enjoyed his productions of Little Shop of Horrors, Sweet Charity and She Loves Me.
Does anyone recall a production of The Boyfriend in one of the theatres along the Strand very early 80s? I cant find anything but I seem to to remember being taken to see it on one of my visits to London when I was living overseas. Or have I got it mixed up with possibly Thoroughly Modern Millie?

The trick with this show is to get the tone right - not out and out parody, send up mercilessly, but more a knowing homage. I've seen some productions that would make a bull in a china shop look subtle. Great songs and dance moments, and the characters are great. It can be emotional, but please never let it be ham fisted.
