Sometimes you stumble across a production that exceeds all expectations.
Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are captivating from the moment they appear, difficult to separate their performances but I can understand how the bewitching Helen Miller could drive anyone to commit murderous acts.
The witches are ever present manipulating and driving the play forward forever haunting the shadows of the minimally lit stage adding to the atmospheric church setting.
The rest of the cast are more than able to hold their own and with the acoustics of the venue found this production to have some of the clearest enunciation along with a pacing that allowed the verse to breathe, found myself immersed in the subtle details of Shakespeare’s magnificent words, performance and language in near perfect harmony.
After the numerous disappointing Macbeth’s over the last few years this is a production that reminds you why this play is special and worth a look if you need your love of the play reignited.
