 National Theatre transfer moving into Wyndham's in the West End. I'm really hoping they keep the set as simple as the video suggests. |

I've booked one of the onstage seats. Though I know no one's seen it in the West End yet, would anyone who saw it at the National care to hazard a guess if I've nabbed myself a right old bargain, or if I've done an awful awful thing? I think I'm front row of the stage seats, so at least won't have any fellow audience members in the way?

Well at the national it was set up so you had the audience on two sides so the action was played both ways with entrances/exists from sides. If in westend they put stage seats at back perhaps but don't then play straight out to the front all the time it could be great. Either way I suspect it would be pretty intense, I was front row in the dorfman and it was pretty intense there where you were safely out of the action but on stage in the midst of the sound and visuals could well be terrifying in a good way. I think you'll be ok, perhaps slightly less so if you had no idea what this was about and like you're theatre at a distance, it's not that kind of piece.

I was miles back at the Dorfman in one of the 'restricted view' seats and it was pretty intense from there as well.
Great to see it has extended and I'd love Denise Gough to get all the plaudits she'll deserve. Lovely actress and a little over looked sometimes...

I've also booked the on stage seats for this. What I found odd was that the front row of the on stage seating is £15, whereas the row directly behind is £90! Wondered at first if it was a glitch in the online booking system, but surely they'd have fixed it by now if so, and there's no indication of any restriction for the cheap ones.
Not sure whether to be excited or terrified now, but it'll sure be an experience!

I saw it at the NT from a Friday Rush front row seat. There the seating in the front row put your eyeline at or slightly below the stage level (so you have to look up) and a catwalk ran between the seating banks so very occasionally stuff happened to your side or a little behind you rather than in front but really just entrances and exits.
Some scenes have a big piece of set in the centre of the stage (I seem to remember a bed and a sink) which, because of the below-looking-up angle meant that if someone was behind it right over the other side of the stage you couldn't see them, but again a rare occurrence and not something to worry about. Obviously I don't know what it will look like exactly in the West End but if it's similar it is definitely worth the very minor restrictions for the massive price difference.

So very glad to have finally caught this tonight - an astonishing, mesmerising performance from Denise Gough, surrounded by a strong cast. Disturbing, unnervingly funny, horrifying, intensely moving - am simultaneously drained and uplifted. I do love theatre.

I don't know. Denise Gough gives a really showy performance which should probably go down well with an American audience. But on the flip side, the play around that performance is a bit 'meh'. I guess if the Americans embrace the performance, the show itself should do OK.

Looking at the quality of plays we get sent from America, I worry that this perfectly respectable but hardly mind-blowing but for the central performance piece might actually kill them.

Not at all. I would not even agree that that "mindset" exists anymore. The Hollywood Ending can only be portrayed as something ironic these days. And the ending of PP&T is one of its greatest strengths.

Caught this on Thursday and loved it! Design and sound felt very familiar a la Curious Incident. Ending with the parents was brutal but what I like was how realistic it was, everything doesn't always have to be happy ending does it!
Denise Gough, fantastic. The whole thing really did feel like a kind of piece she had written and performed herself, obviously not the case but all the same.
