Torch Song will run from 22 August to 13 October, with initial casting composed of Daisy Boulton (Laurel), Dino Fetscher (Ed), Matthew Needham (Arnold) and Rish Shah (Alan). The piece has design by Ryan Laight, lighting by James Whiteside, sound by Seb Frost, with casting by Will Burton. Opening night is 6 September and further casting is to be announced.

I presume this is the more recent revised version that was recently on Broadway, given that it's dropped the Trilogy from the title.

The casting feels underpowered to my mind. I love the original version (and have put the revised one on my wishlist) - but I fear this isn't a well-known enough cast to make the play work for a new venue like this.

TST is the original version - essentially 3 plays - with a run time of up to 4 hours (if not more)
TS is the revised shorter version with a run time of about 2 hours.
I haven't seen the script yet, but suspect it might be a similar contraction used to the film version (though I may be completely wrong in that)

Just looking at my Menier poster on the wall for Torch Song Trilogy in 2012. They must have done an abridged version as if it was 4 hours I'd have remembered it. Any play over 2 hours and I'm fidgeting in my seat, especially Menier benches.

According to the reviews, the Menier was about 3 hours
Certainly when Sher was in the original London production it was a 4 hour marathon.
So it has been through a range of versions over the years

Having a look at the show schedule, nice to see a double show day on Sunday’s for the run (I’m always on the look out for Sunday theatre apart from the Menier and a few fringe theatres). Though there doesn’t appear to be any performances on Monday or Tuesday nights.

Matthew Needham is a terrific actor but no way in a million years could he be Arnold (now watch me be proven wrong and it will turn out that's who he's playing !!!) Michael Urie was miscast in my view in this in NY -- Harvey really wrote the part for his own unique rhythms tho' I did see Antony Sher in it and he was excellent.

I'm just reading Torch Song now and I'm excited to see it will have a run in London. The original "trilogy" has long been one of my favourite plays with it's blisteringly funny one liners on the surface but it's underlying sadness and exploration of relationships. It appears to me the shortened version has all the essence of the original (the original three plays are still there, clearly defined) but now in a more manageable and audience friendly way. Trouble is in reading the play, it's Harvey Fierstein who is there!!!!

Joining the previously announced Matthew Needham (Arnold), Daisy Boulton (Laurel), Dino Fetscher (Ed) and Rish Shah (Alan) will be Jay Lycurgo, making his stage debut, as David and Bernice Stegers (Eight Women) as Ma. Not the most enticing of casts to open a season at a new theatre imo |

I thought Matthew Needham was brilliant in Summer and Smoke at the Almeida. I didn't understand what all the fuss was about, regarding Patsy Ferran.

Just caught the matinée of this today. A nice production. All the cast came across perfect in the roles. The chemistry between Arnold and his mother was sublime.
Nice new theatre as well. Though avoid rows b to d there is no rake between them. If booking row a is perfect. Other than that I'd go for row e onwards.
