Interesting, I was convinced he'd take up the role in the West End in September, isn't that usually when the cast change is?

Perhaps he was holding out for the West End role but things didn't work out in the end? Just my guess.
Yep, cast change is usually September and I just found an interview that suggested West End auditions are around this time...

Yep just been confirmed according to social media photos of the dress rehearsal that they're using the US tour chandelier. They also seem to be using the side boxes from the original production and their design seems to be altered (less detailed) compared to the set model they released. The travelator they're using looks chunky and has a dented matte finish, the original is shiny!. The introduction of the "Garnier Curtain" backdrop from the US tour is completely un-necessary and just adds extra weight to the show. I feel like I'm nitpicking but this whole show feels like a cashgrab and I'm not surprised considering what Cameron Mackintosh has done to Les Mis, Miss Sagion and countless other shows in the past few years. After the original Les Mis production got replaced, I'm now more than worried for the Brilliant original in London. Do you have a link please?

It looks like someones dangling an ear ring in front of the camera. So incredibly disappointed in Cameron Macintosh and RUG. Absolute sham.

So, my friend who is in the know says that apparently there has been a problem with the new chandelier and that they have had to bring in the US tour one as a temporary measure while they sort the new one. Also the Curve is not the largest theatre in the world. Perhaps the new one just didn't fit.

I find all this a bit ludicrous if i'm honest. For one we know that there have been some issues with the chandelier and that's why the US Tour version is being used, it's temporary, Cam Mac said on the radio that certain issues with the set will be rectified over the course of the run and it will be in full force by the summer. Secondly, Cam Macs productions continue to be some of the highest quality tours around and he tries to get them as close to their west end counterparts as possible, sometimes it's not possible. Talking about his tours as shams and money grabbers is absurd when you compare them to some of the tours that go around with their half sets, costumes from asos and reality tv star leads.

I could post a side-by-side comparison picture of the tour and the London production, to show the physical differences, not just in the 'temporary' chandelier, but of course Id be banned for doing so.
My main bug, and I stand by this wholeheartedly, is that we were sold "the brilliant original" and this production is by no means "the brilliant original" and to that extent this is an outright sham. I have been lied to and misled in order to part with hundreds of pounds. So yeah, I'm a little bit furious.

A few differences here and there but majority the same as London. He said it looks very sleek and fresh and that seeing it looking so clean was like being transported back to when the London show was brand new. I'm going tonight. (also, he confirmed that the new chandelier doesn't fit the Curve ceiling as it's too big and will be added in Manchester). Can't wait!!

Except the original did tour, multiple times to multiple venues. Do we 'know' there is another chandelier? aside from a post on here?
I do think he plans to do a les mis with phantom in London once he finds a production he is happy with.
I also disagree a bit with him presenting the best tours. Maybe once, but instead of originals they are now always scaled down, redesigned etc with some marketing spin attached. Deliberately avoiding the top creatives. They are still good, but have not bettered the originals in my view. Cameron used to represent quality and spent the money but he is now more and more about cost cutting. Really only Disney are the ones that take the west end shows on tour with minimal differences to the main london show.

Just go there if you're a traditionalist! Wouldn't say thats a viable argument. There plenty of people I know who can't afford a luxurious trip to London's West End, or even a budget trip, who have had to wait years for Phantom to tour again, some who have never seen it. They all brought tickets under the premise they were seeing a tour of the original. So it's not about being a "traditionalist".

I have to admit I find it amazing that there are clearly hundreds of people working around the clock to make this show as "brilliant" as the original and before it's even opened for previews some "fans" are slating it! I've seen the London show many times and am really intrigued and excited to see the differences, the tweaks and *gasp* the improvements!!!

I've seen the London show many times and am really intrigued and excited to see the differences, the tweaks and *gasp* the improvements!!! Totally agree, it really feels as if some people need to find a gripe with this production. So far as I am concerned, this will be "the brilliant original" if it is 95% identical. From all I've heard, it will be. Frankly we can't expect in 2020 for a complete replica to go out for short tour stints - in the 90s they had to have two sets running at once (one being performed, the other being built/struck) to keep the tour running. Costs just make that impossible these days. 99% of the audience wouldn't spot any difference. From what I'm hearing on here, this isn't a Les Mis, a Miss Saigon, or (thankfully) a Ghost. This is the original production with a couple of tweaks to enable it to tour at a reasonable price. Sounds fair to me.

In the brilliant original there are those dummies in fancy dress on the masquerade staircase and if an actor touches them by accident they wobble a bit... 🙂

It’s been widely advertised as the ‘original’; people would be well within their rights to expect to SEE the Phantom they’ve seen in London. Conversely, the music & script could be considered the ‘original’ element, so as long as they are present we wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.

Ahhhhh now I remember why I left this place. Heaven forbid someone should express an opinion that differs to that of the majority. There is nothing wrong with a bit of healthy debate @mm , as long as nobody is being rude or aggressive, which I've not seen so far. Any opinion is going to be open to some counter argument.
