If Kiss Of The Spider Woman is so universally popular, why doesn’t it ever get revived? Two reasons. One, the title role is formidably difficult to cast. It doesn't just need a strong singer and dancer, it needs a kind of old-fashioned song-and-dance STAR that barely exists these days. Chita Rivera's replacement in London - Bebe Neuwirth - was absolutely qualified for the role on paper - she can sing, and she's a superb dancer - but she doesn't have anything close to Chita Rivera's stage presence and the show didn't work anything like as well with her at the centre of it. Two: size/complexity. It's not that big a show, but the fantasy sequences need a bit more space (and frankly a bit more pizazz) than you'll find at somewhere like the Southwark Playhouse or Charing Cross - and at the same time, while the original production is a very powerful memory for a lot of people who saw it, me included, it wasn't that big a hit on either side of the Atlantic, and unless there was a really big star attached - and I don't mean a theatre star, I mean Madonna or Beyoncé or Jennifer Lopez - there's no commercial case for a revival in the West End or on Broadway. |

Legally Blonde is definitely a must! I would love for this show to return to the West End with the full staging. I was fortunate enough to see the most recent UK & Ireland tour, and the show was a joy from start to finish!
I would also love to see Spring Awakening. Unfortunately it is a show I have never had the pleasure of seeing live, but I would be over in a heartbeat if a production opened on the West End!

I think Legally Blond is a shoe in for another tour, likewise Addams Family, Grease, Footloose, Dirty Dancing and anything else based on a movie. I hope that we still get all that was scheduled before, although I suspect that the pricier end of the touring calendar may be what suffers.

I think only ‘Footloose’ in that list wouldn’t attract a crowd when theatres reopen. The need for a good night out as opposed to an evening of excellent musical theatre will be huge once stuff gets going. They all have sets stored somewhere so the outlay is surely reduced somewhat.

I’d love for legally blonde to come back I saw the first uk tour it was brilliant. Became a favriot a soon As I heard the cast recording. If hairspray can come back with michale ball (when it does open eventually) so can legally blonde 😊

I honestly would love to see Trevor Nunn helm a revival of 'Sweeney Todd'. I like his style of directing and I can imagine he would adapt it in a similar fashion he did 'Nicholas Nickleby' and 'Les Mis', although that is also thanks to John Napier's set designs.
God! Just imagine a John Napier set design for 'Sweeney Todd'!

I watched the trailer for the Kenwright Sound of Music tour earlier and whilst it hasn’t something that I have rushed to see before (having only seen the Palladium version) the Kenwright version is something I’d quite like to seem come back. Doesn’t look to fancy, so hopefully an economical venture.

A big lavish revival of A Little Night Music at the ENO with that huge orchestra (and someone like Cate Blanchett as Desiree Armfeldt).
But otherwise, would love to see us get revivals of Legally Blonde, Witches of Eastwick, Nine and Ragtime

Me and My Girl.
A production with Matt Lucas no where near it. Exactly as as it was written and performed at The Adelphi Theatre in the 80's and 90's, but with a new set design.
There's a reason such a feel good show ran for 9 years.
But Bill Snibson needs to be a name. I think i saw Karl Howman, Gary Wilmott and Brian Conley, all comedians who had great voices. Who is there is like this these days, apart from Jason manford, who doesnt seems like a Bill, to me. And Sally is a great part for any actress to make a name for herself in. I think i saw Joanna Riding and Jessica Martin, amongst others.
Some great small parts for older names too.
If i had the money, I'd finance it myself!

I'd be keen for Me and My Girl, and definitely agree with Legally Blonde. I saw it on the last tour, and I'm not sure I've ever had such a fun night in the theatre! (It might have had something to do with the themed cocktails I suppose...) I'd have loved to have seen City of Angels this time around, but Covid threw a spanner in the works.  I'd be very tempted by R&H's State Fair (but the earlier Iowa version, rather than the Texas one). I love the music from that, and think it's sad it isn't better known. |

Maybe Camelot? Although I think what I actually would like is to see Julie Andrews doing it, so short of a time machine (or film recording I suppose), I think I'm out of luck there!

Camelot has a glorious score and a creaking book. It needs a brilliant director to reshape it into the show it deserves to be.

I'm glad to see Spiderwoman and Eastwick on people's lists.
I'd also go for Camalot as I've never seen it. Also State fair, lady in the dark, Fiorello, Zorba & Pal Joey* but basically anything by the masters that I haven't seen.
*Weren't the Choc Fac doing programming this and then Covid...
