Yeah, my impression was all Sunday transfers are totally dead in the water because 1. Covid blew all plans up and 2. lacklustre-ish reception of it on Broadway. I thought this thread meant we had gotten an update on that rumour! The rights also went back up for amateur productions and a very good one happened recently at Mountview Academy, which usually signals the death of a transfer, much like what happened with Into The Woods. Maybe Sondheim transfers have a curse that need to be reversed... As much as I'd love a Marianne Elliot reinvention, the chances are slim. Sunday is performed much the same almost everywhere, it is very controlled by the design of its original production possibly because of that legendary pro-shot and the specificity of the book. It should definitely have a new lease on life through a director like her. I had the good fortune of snagging a front-row seat two days after Sunday opened on Broadway and Jake Gyllenhal and I was surprised by how moving and impactful it was for me. I had gone in pretty much not knowing much of the story and having heard a few of the songs here and there, but the cast was amazing, as was the orchestra which if I remember wasn't larger than 12 instruments. I was really disappointed for you folks across the pond that this never arrived. I can't compare productions and different directorial choices like many of you can, but Jake Gyllenhal really was incredible. The way he was able to connect to the audience playing the two different George's - there was a depth I didn't anticipate. Definitely was a special event billed as a "limited run" that seemed destined to find extended life. That it hasn't has perhaps made it seem even more special.

Despite being from the other side of the world, I am pretty well travelled. I am proud to say that in my travels I have been lucky enough to see the original painting hanging in the Chicago Art Institute. It's HUGE! Almost the size of a wall! And if you do stand at the right angle, with the lights, it really does 'shimmer'. Day off from school was it? Did you lipsynch in any parades afterwards? Lip-synching danke schön! See, you jest however what you don't know is that (genuinely) Ferris Bueller is my hero!

When I visited the Art Institute a few years ago the museum guide excitedly informed me the painting from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was in the next room. I hadn’t a clue what that meant (a gap in my cinema knowledge) so went in the doorway and excitedly whispered to my companion “it’s the Sunday in the Park with George painting!!!” It is a lovely sight.
